Sunroof only moves a fraction of an inch per press

2004 GT2. This has happened intermittently all summer, but now that it's cooling off it's constant. When I open the sunroof or close it, it only moves 1/2" to " per press of the switch. I'm not really sure what to check for this issue. It clicks and moves then clicks and stops. The switch feels normal.

I seem to remember reading somewhere where a person had fixed a similar issue with a hard drive magnet, but I can't find the reference and have hard drive magneted the $hit out of it and had no luck :P.

Ideas?

Yeah, that's the one. I just went out there and spent some more time trying it-- no love. I don't feel a tug anywhere either. :(.

It didn't seem to do anything in my case. I pulled down the console again, and there's nothing on top of it that would seem to be related. I moved the magnet around above it too, and no love. Meh.

clean the track it runs on and re-grease it, its just not slippery any more and its getting stuck, happened on my 04

I wiped off the stiff old grease, greased the track with some moly grease that I had in the garage, and used some chain lube on the springs on the side. It might be a little better, but I'll work it some more tomorrow when the sun is out. Assuming it comes out.

I'm having the same issue with my sunroof, it moves in little spurts everytime I press the switch. Is this the same symptoms you had ? If so, can you tell me what the problem was and what the dealer did to fix it?

Thanks

It's not fixed... I tried lubing the tracks with some grease, and it didn't make any difference. Now that it's warmed up a bit it's better. The only thing that has helped at all was using some silicone spray on the tracks, so it opens without any problem now, but still stops every couple of inches while closing it. I did wipe most of the grease off of the tracks before this-- maybe the moly grease was too "stiff" to allow it to glide smoothly? At any rate, closing it is still an exercise in frustration...
