00 GTP questions

Hey Guys.

I drive a 00 Grand Prix GTP and have recently been looking to upgrade the performance of it. It seems the most common upgrades seem to be switching the supercharger pulley and putting on an intake. I was thinking about installing a 3.4 inch pulley and a K&N FIPK Air Intake but I wasn't sure if I would be able to install these without causing engine damage due to the extra power. I was also curious if there was a decent ECU program for the car. Any thoughts?

With just a CAI and a 3.4 you might have less power and the engine might blow up. Start with the exhaust...u-bend delete and front manifold. Then go with a smaller pulley and a good tune.

More than likely you will break something. For those mods you'll need headers, tune, t-stat down pipe at the least I believe. Check the threads. There is a VERY USEFUL thread around that's geared towards modding your 3800.

Use the search function and search for "Safely Modding Your 3800 powered car" thread... Read. Then re-read....

WRONG....WRONG.....WRONG.

you can easily run a 3.4 pulley with a down pipe, colder plugs, and intake, and a box tune.

It all depends on the specific car. Why members of this board believe u need to spend thousands of dollars for a pulley is beyond me.

I already did put on a Borla cat back exhaust. Where would I get the plugs and the down pipe from though. Any specific website thats a good source for the parts?

thousands???

I can get to a 3.4 pulley drop for under 500 bucks.

Headers, 200 + clamps and rtv = 225-235ish
3.4 pulley depends on either press on or mps system. 30-100 bucks
605's or 104's, 12 bucks.
Tune, around 150ish depending on where you go, and could be cheaper if you know a guy with HPT.

Changing to a cooler tstat is stupid, I never tell anyone too.

When you live in a city where temps in the summer reach well above 100 degrees then changing the t-stat becomes very attractive. Especially since the factory temp sensor kicks on at an undesirable temperature.

A downpipe, intake, and box tune will suffice for a 3.4 pulley. However, if choosing that route wouldn't it be worth spending the extra $$ and upgrading the manifolds as well.

He's from Connecticut, not Arizona.

Lmao.... you tell people to dump hundreds of dollars for headers....yet keep the stock t-stat?

And that 200 dollar set of headers will last maybe 2 or 3 winters.....mark my words. Plus u will be lucky to have them seal.

What about the Pacesetters? The price seems right...are they still available? Maybe he could go with these.

Anyone here tried these? I was thinking about putting them on my car.

Cooler thermostat = cooler head temps = less chance of hot spots = reduced knock

Of course I may be totally wrong :P
