4T-60 to 4T-65e HD swap

Since everyone says the 4T-60 is garbage for modding I am staring to look in to used transmissions that I can rebuild overtime. I was just wondering if a 4T-65e HD can be swapped into a 1997 Grand Prix GT with just a tune for the gears. And does it have to be from a 97 GTP?

you need the engine bay harness and computer from a 97 GTP for it work the 4t60 and 4y65 have compleatly diffrent wiring. not sure how it would work with a L36 as the only two cars i know of that have done this where either a top swap or a compleat L67 swap

the 97 GT i am buying has this swap done but for some reason the overdrive is not working trying to figure this out.

the other 97 GT that had this swap done wroked with no issues

You have a 1997 GT? Then you should have the 4t65e. 4t60e is OBD1, last year with that was 1995 for the Grand Prix. The HD is for the supercharged engines. And I may be wrong, but if you are going to swap, I think you will be needing one from a 1997, since I think the wiring may be different in the 98+.

Wait that doesn't make sense..4t60e isn't neccesarily OBD1..because they made these trannies in 1996 yet, which was OBD2. But if you have a 1997 you have a 4t65e.

and why it is mostly unloved lol

the ABS system and traction control is also special to 97 as well as a few other things

for a little wile. the green 4dr in that thread i posted killed 2 4t60s and one was built with stonger parts why it got the 4t65 swap to begin with

first death was burnt cluches

second death was a busted input shaft

so the way I understood that thread you posted is that I can swap to like a 99 style harness, pcm, and trans, I just wont have ABS or traction control

You don't need a harness. Just the connector and 5 more pins to add to the pcm connector. 97 wasn't such a bastard year. 97 was the first year of the 4T65 on the S2 SC. 96...that was a bastard year for the SC S2 and 4T60, the pcm had a smaller file etc etc than even the 97.

You can swap just a trans w/o doing the whole wiring harness though. There's a how to on it.

the traction and ABS work as they did before

98+ harness will not work becuase of the BCM not 100% sure why as i was not the one that did the swap or research

adding in the 5 extra wires works too

but the did find out why the OD does not work both transmissions had a bad 4th gear hub. the PCM is commanding 4th and is energizing the 1-2,3-4 solinoid

Could you point me in the direction of that write up please?
