97 Grandprix GT - Abnormal radio static

Hey guys..

My (well, gf drives it) 97 Grandprix GT 4 door is giving me some radio problems. She bought me a Sirius Sat radio for Christmas for my Jimmy, but im not done installing the camshaft in it yet, so I put the unit in her car for the time being. I removed the Alpine HU and installed a Panasonic HU with Audio Input and Ipod input in the front. Made it easier for installing the Sirius, and I thought my issue im about to explain was due to the old shotty Alpine HU that was in it.

Anywho, I'm still having the same problem with the new head unit. Every time I (or she) steps on the brakes, the radio (and only radio, all other modes are fine..ie input, usb, cd..) goes all staticy (sp?) Release the brakes, and the radio is clear again.

Im wondering if this is ground related at all. Anyone know where the ground group is for the radio harness?

does this car have an aftermarket sub system? if so be sure that the av cabels are ran on the OPPOSITE side of the car the power wires are.you will pick up what is called road noise threw that av wire from the power wire if there in close proximity.also...when you installed the new unit did you cut out the old plug to the original deck and wire it directly or buy the easy install kit?

Who ever installed the Alpine Head Unit that was in the car did a pretty good job them selves destroying the factory harness. The factory plug was still there, but the person stripped an inch of insulation off the wire, twisted, and taped.

I'm a diesel mechanic by trade. I see wiring problems every other day. I'm not foreign to wiring..lol. A co-worker has a buddy who works at a GM Dealer. He gave my coworker his username and password to GM's SPO Tech Website, where I got all the wiring info and pin-outs, and Installed (cut the factory plug out, stripped, crimped, soldered, and heat shrinked) all the wires accordingly. The wires that I did not use in the factory harness got capped (using a piece of heat shrink with a 1/4" hanging over the wire end, then heated) so they would not cause an unintentional ground (short).

Its done as right as it can be, without using the quick harness that I was hoping I could use.

There is no system in the car. The only other thing I see that the previous owner had done is installed Kaption speakers all the way around. I have checked, and repaired, all of their improper connections.

they are RCAs, they can't pick up a 0hz freq, unless your running AC for your power wire if so i'd love to see the size of that converter from DC to AC.

as i stated before check ALL of your grounds!

That's what I am asking. Does anyone know where the group ground is for the radio/dash/cabin?

10-4 will do. Wont be tonight..maybe tomorrow night. We just got home from the hospital with pregnancy complications.. been up since 6:30am saturday morning..so its the last thing on our mind right now.

Thanks for the input. I will make up a shorter isolated ground wire, and check back in with the results.
