Coming home from christmas shopping, this guy was flying by everyone. so i sped up in hopes of catching him at the red light.....and i did. So we come to a stop and my brother asks him if he wants to go, he said alright. And to be fair, i was ahead of him a little ( his front fender by more mirror). anyway, i had a fluke and started to go before the green light ( thats when the cars became uneven.....at least i stopped all the way though). The light turns green, he spins, i spin, and i pull on him through first gear. he startes to catch me around 50 ish, and by the time we shut down around 80, he was a full length ahead of me. we shut it down, i get next to him, give him a thumbs up and i turn off to my road. Not bad for a stock 14 yr old car, with 187k on it. Im not sure what year his g6 was.
When I race someone, should i keep it in drive instead of 2nd, The way i see it, is that i only go to 80 at the most, and in second gear, 80Mph is about 5600 RPM. so im asking if second would be better, or should i put it in 3rd?
 


Doesn't sound like you did too bad for stock. I put it in whatever gear keeps the revs up where I want them.
 
Sounds like your GP and the G6 both need driver mod. Spinning isn't winning.

Tune your car to shift how you want. There's no reason to take it out of D.

FWIW, I ran a G6 in my Accord before the trans went out and it only got me by a car from 0-80 no spinning.
 
No, Spade's right. The only reason I take mine out of drive if I'm starting a race while driving down the road. Sometimes you're in a power band where your auto doesn't downshift to the best gear.
 


Wet roads mean stopping and handling is a problem too. It multiplies the danger of something stupid we sometimes do.
 
Not to mention you said that yo were out christmas shopping, I'm guessign A LOT of people were... Not good sir, not good at all.
 
i live in a small town....late at night....four lane highway only had 3 cars.....including us....trust me, if cars are around, i dont race.
 


they either get the 3.9, the 3.5, or i think the 2.4 4-banger ecotech. i've been told the 3.9's move pretty well.
 
The 3.6 was from the malibu. Only available in the GXP model G6. The 3.9 was in the GTP. Base and GT received the 3.5. GT's got the 6 speed trans as well. (Former G6 owner lol)
 


My girlfriend has an 06 with the 3.5. Cars really aren't bad for what they are, I think the car vs car she would have had me when I was stock or been close to it
