My new 98 GTP vs. BMW 525i

So I just bought my 98 GTP last night and tonight i was on my way home from work on a 2 lane road, and im at a light by myself and it turns green and from behind a black late 90's bmw 525i blows past me then slows way down so were side to side. Im surprised to see the driver is a guy in his mid 40's...so i pretend like im not interested just coasting beside him doing about 5 over the speed limit. Then we come to a red light, and im ready to go. I wait to see what he does when the light turns green, he doesnt launch he just accelerates normal, so im disapointed....then at about 25 he punches it and i see him coming so i punch it and absolutely kill him until about 75 mph then he turned off.

1st kill in the GTP

not to bust your bubble, but and series with a 25 or 28 at the end is not worth racing.

330i/330ci and 530i are quick

335i/m3 are fast

any 5/7 series with 30 or higher will probly have a v8...

Some good cars to race are 330ci/330i, mustang gt auto's, audi tt's. wrx's, monte carlo ss, acura cl-s/tl-s, acura TL, rsx-s/civic si, other grand prix gtp's, ford fuzion v6, maxima 5.5 gen, altima 3.5, lexus is300, etc

I think you are kinda missing the point. Its not whether or not its worth racing or not, its rising to the challenge of a race. If the 525i has the gumption to race a GTP, are you just going to let him drive by or put him down?

Crap man, its not always about who has the biggest motor, the most hp, torque etc. Sometimes its just for the fun of it. To mash that throttle, hear the car wind up and in the case of a GTP the blower whine and so on. Most of the time, on the street anyway, its about knowing your car. From a roll its all about whether or not you are in your powerband or not and what the consequences for you if you are not or the other guy if you are.

If you want to find out who has the bigger motor, go to the track and take it down the 1/4 mile. Something else I dont think you are grasping is that most (with the exception of those who really know) will look at a Grand Prix and just brush it off until they get smoked by it or it hangs with them. Ive personally hung with a WS6 Firebird not too terribly long after I got my GTP and we pushed 135 down a VERY long straight away. Now, I did not win that, but nor did he walk away from me either. But you dont think he was sitting there thinking how in hades is a friggin family sports coupe is holding its own against a V8 muscle car? I know I dang sure would have been asking that. To this day, whenever I see him around town and I was in the GP he waves at me.

It doesnt matter what motor you have, how much money you put in to it and so on, there is ALWAYS going to be someone out there that has done more, spent more money and occasionally you run across a car that you know dang well you should be able to knock out and yet get your doors rattled.

Well said Syn. Yhat happened to me with a civic hatchback, the kill story is in here. He was spraying on me and when we hit it, he'd get a good car and a half jump and I was like no way. But, made up my ground and walked around him. You never are going to now the outcome until it's done and over.

Im with Syn. When you think your the best, there is someone out there to put you in your place. Each car has its own "lifestyle" if you will. Whether you own a Domestic, Import or European car, each car has its own following of people. As far as the oh you cant beat that car, or dont even try to run that car, youll never know untill you try. You might be suprised one day....

i would love to kill a bmw just cause its a bmw.....and the guying driving it obviously thought he could beat the gtp so y not?? lol...............i say good kill lol

Actually a 5/7 series with a 40 or higher is the V8's... 325/525 (2.5L 6cyl.) 328/528 (2.8L 6cyl.) 330/530 (3.0L 6cyl.) ..... 540 545 550 and M5 are all V8's but don't follow the same method with engine size... ie... the 550 is not a 5.0 it's actually a 4.8L but anyways... I know that was a little off topic but just FYI

I don't care if it was a VW vanagen If he wanted to race
Im gonna race it
If it is a porch
I am gonna race it
If I loose I loose
If I win HOLY CRAP you will never hear the end of it
& Like Syn said you may have the biggest baddest car but if you can't drive it your car sux
