Since I took my car to the dealership for the recall, it hasn't ran right since. I had 2 different mechanics look at it and they both (without me saying anything) told me that it didn't look like my front valve cover gasket had been changed. Something about the bolts?
Whatever they did to it, now my rear valve cover gasket leaks SO BAD, that it keeps fouling out the plugs. I can only go about 2 miles before it fouls out the plugs again! There is oil all over everywhere. I pulled it from one end of the driveway to the other (5 car lengths) and smoke comes out of the hood real bad. I am HOT! I can't afford to pay anyone to fix it either. I am so pissed! Plus, now I probably won't make it to Branson either:( Guess I picked the wrong thread to vent.
 


I would get a new set of gaskets, less than 10bux. have a buddy or you slap them in real quick.

You gotta make Branson!!!!!!

My mom paid for her and me and the kids to go to Branson last weekend. Didn't do much, but I REALLY want to go to the meet!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if I have to drive a different car, money is still an issue. :(

And where am I gonna find a 'friend' thats gonna help me out?? If we had a meet, that would be my only hope. "Friends" around here are the ones that need help, but never return the favor. If I could get a knowledgeable person to help me or tell me what to do, I'd try to do it myself. Some tools might be an issue also.

The kid at Auto Zone just told me $52.99 for the gaskets.
Any brand I should use? New bolts? Goo of some sort? Spell it out for me. I'm gonna put the GP in the back of the driveway and tear down! Might take me a while. Too bad this isn't a Chevy 350. Then I could do it myself! My husband used to be young and motivated. Now, he's all about 'paying someone is worth it to not have the headache'.
Anything I need to know??? Thanks for yalls help!!!
 


For 52.99, that should be 2 felpro gaskets and new grommets. No you don't need new bolts. As long as yours aren't damaged in any way. When I changed mine, I used some blue rtv on the valve cover to help hold the gasket while putting it on. As for putting them on, it is time consuming. I have the instuctions in my manual. Do you have a email you can pm me and when I get to work tomorrow, I can send them to you. I'll also see if I can find anything online and send you.

If you want my help, i'd be more than willing to check it out and fix it on my weekend off. I think a fresh set of eyes needs to look at it close.

Honestly, doing the valve cover gaskets is very easy and if you can do a Chevy 350, you're more than capable of doing these too, trust me on this. We'll guide you through it otherwise my offer is out there.
 


Thanks Shawn!!!! I think I talked my husband into doin it. Do I need to rock the motor forward abit to do the rear? Like when changing the plugs.
 
It will help for more clearance, but I didn't when I did mine. Just had to do a little more maneuvering to get the cover in and out. So it probably would be a good idea to pull the motor forward.
 
You can rock it, but you don't need to IMO. Hell I don't rock my motor for plug changes honestly but some people find it easier. It certainly won't hurt either way though. Good luck, it'll be cake, trust me....
