Opinions on N* TB please

Im torn as to whether i want to get a N* setup or not. I want to, but i keep reading about ppl not liking the throttle feel of them and saying its not worth it. What exactly is the difference in throttle feel? I thought it gave a better response time?

I'm one of the lovers.

However..I can explain the feel to you pretty well. An L67 TB has a 1/4 of a circle as the throttle plate tip in actuator. (look at side with cable). It's pretty straightforwarrd. Now a N* starts off gentle and blammo.. it goes straight down.

This gives you nice low throttle ability and then....holy mother of power. Plus..it's a larger bore and could potentially gulp more air.

here is another reason for me to swap then. the progression of the TB on the Northstar is closer to the DOHC's TB. the compound linkage on the 3800 is just weird to me

i never liked the throttle feel of the northstar so i only ran it for a week before i went back to a ported stocker. i just couldnt stand how you'd barely touch the pedal and the car would be into boost already.

What...you mean like when you stop to go over a speed bump real slow and you give it a little bit of gas to get over it and you end up ramping the fugger? Yeah, I haz that problem.

It took me a long time to figure out how take off normally, without spinning the tires. It was a lot different than the other 2 gp's that I had.

yea i guess that would be kind of a bother especially if ur trying to just cruise. is a good prted TB just as good as a N*?

It's not soo dramatic. You will get used to it. You can drive normally between 1-20% tps all day then really push it in for wot.

I noticed on mine, by reading my vcm scanner, that I can push down to almost 60% tps until it hits that "wall" then any more And your on your way to wot!

I love it.

And here's to the haters of the N*, they didn't mention your cai no longer sounds like a fire-breathing monster at start up anymore :(

yeah, im pretty much sold on it too. if the only problem pple dont like about it is it being too touchy, thats not a big deal for me....or at least i hope it wont be.

come on with 2.92's it should be fine. with 3.29's i have it would be even touchier and i'd feel bad for people with the 3.69's! i know when i had the DOHC with the 3.73's it was very easy to spin up the tires. then again im running 245/45-17's which are much smaller then the stock tire dia. i ran the numbers once and it would be like running a 4.10 ratio on a stock tire. with those gears i could edge out a stock GTP off the line then when the engines power band kicked in at 4300 rpm i would be gone.

the only thing i didnt like about the 3.73's is my HW milage took a hit. lost about 3mpg on the highway. but around town since i could ride 4th at 38 mph i was doing ok.

One other Thing i like about the north star is that it is shorter then the stock TB. this will give me more space to make my intake as on my monte the engine bay is narrower.

The only reason I didnt like it is that you had to be REAL good at launching it or you spin (which I kinda got used to until winter came around...snow+torque+touchy throttle= NO traction)...

I haven looked back since I switched to a LS1...

arent there issues with the maf when tuning the ls1 tb though?

I haven had any... probably depends on what maf setup you run though...

now that im thinking about it, it was actually easier to tune after the swap do to the fact that the LS1 wasn as touchy... made it easier to hit more cells (thats personal though idk about anyone elses experiences) so I could dial it in better...
