Inferno Hood: Carbon Fiber or Fiberglass?

I am looking to get the Inferno hood for my 2007 GXP, but was skeptical about the quality of a fiberglass hood. I've heard they are easy to chip or crack. I would probably paint it to match my black GXP but if I got the carbon fiber I might leave it depending on how it looks and depending on the difficulty of painting a carbon fiber hood as I've heard the paint does not last. Suggestions? Advice? Thanks

I'd go CF. Being black, most people won't notice from afar, and up close they'll just say "oh sweet carbon fiber!"

I dont see the point of getting carbon fiber then painting over it. So if you want to paint it, get fiberglass. If not, CF.

ok..i would go with cb b/c ur gp is black. I got the fiberglass one..looks good just having problems with it sticking up slighting in the front drivers side but overall looks great!. it all comes down to $$$$$$ :th_thumbsup-wink:

^^ thats because fiberglass warps.... my bro has that problem with his rollpan on his truck.

The one question everyone is forgetting, what type of climate do you live in? Do not buy cf if you get alot of freezing during the winter.

You can buy CF if you live in a nasty winter state, you just need to keep the hood off the car during winter.

Buy the CF hood, and if you don't want the WHOLE hood to be showing CF get some gloss black vinyl to go over it and accent the CF the way you like.

Straight gloss black vinyl could be had for little $$$ and cut properly to accent it and if you get the good kind it stretches a little to mold around the few curves the inferno hoods come with. It also weights next to nothing, and if you decide you don't like it or want to change the design, pull it off and do it again! :D

Cf and they can be painted over just fine just sand it first buddy did that with his skyline its been the same noe for 4 years no problems

Just cause there are multiple people viewing this....and commenting it...and probably didnt check the dates, etc.

OP has 2 posts, and this thread died 4 months ago.

So just let this little thread breathe it's last breath, and go peacefully?

Corvettes are made out of fiberglass and I never seen one warped. Stop buying ebay hoods.

You also live in Florida. Fiberglass body panels are notorious for mounting tabs cracking and breaking in cold weather.

However, Corvettes are made out of Enduroflex, just like the Fieros, and Saturns. Not fiberglass.
