No, not the music types but I've got a problem.

When I turn my car off, the RAP keeps the radio on like normal. When I open the door, it turns off my radio but I get a loud pop through my subs. In case it matters, I've got an audiobahn amp and 2x12" subs. My HU is a dvd player combo unit from Panasonic I believe. Any ideas what could cause this?
 


have you had it tuned cause i knno some times when you have it set to sensitive or the frequency set wrong.
 
my suggestion is to just turn it down before you turn it off and if you still have this problem you probably have the remote wire for the amp hooked to the accesory power rather than the remote power lead
 
It happens even if the radio is off. So maybe I do have the wire wrong. I'll have to check on it. I'm pretty sure I only have a remote power wire though. I'll check on it. Thanks.


What do you mean by Tuned? The amp tuned you mean?
 
the amp, yah... I'm gettin a system on the 2nd, I need to know how to tune mine too... anybody got a write-up??
 
i ve always played it by ear just playing wit frequecies and most of the time a sub will have frequency ranges you should try to stay within bbut if at all possible find some one to tune it o and make sure the subs are not playing the words.

yes i mean the amp but id deffinenlty check that wire since it does it even when it is off.
 
are you still having this problem? If so, There are a couple of things I would try.

1) try regrounding the amp to a different spot,or clean off the area it is grounded to better, make sure it is bare metal.
2) try turning the gain down on the amp, sometimes when the gain is turned up way high, it causes a loud turn off pop.
3)Use a relay to actually turn on the amp, this is more typical when you use more than 2 amps to boost the turn on voltage, but it can atually get rid of the turn off pop.

getting ur system tuned doesn't necessarily mean cutting out the vocals...basically what u do when u tune a system is making sure that your subs aren't putting out any frequencies that ur other speakers are other wise whater band is crossingis going to stick out from the rest of the music...

so say ur speakers on your rear deck and front door will put out anywhere from 20k Hz to 45 Hz you'll want to tune your subs so that nothing above 45 Hz is being played through your subs...

on another note it works the same way if tou have seperate tweeters up front u dont want the door speakers and the tweeters to put out the same frequencies
 
What you are getting is commonly referred to as a "clip out". I get this a lot at clubs I DJ at where the mixer has the gains up way too high for what the subs can actually handle, most especially when the subs are all pointed at each other, so that would explain why it's only going on with your door panel units. This is also the number one killer of subs. (Edit: Well, crap. I re-read your entire post again. Is it going on with your door panel ones or just the rear deck or both?)

What you want to do, since I'm betting your head unit a lot like my panasonic, is go into your menu features and flatline everything. If you only have settings for treble and bass, just put them both at medium. Make sure your subs are tuned for the lower frequencies only, and I'm betting you'll see that your subs are set for mids and lows. Which is probably what is creating the problem. Most of the time I see what you're getting it's because the default settings on the head unit is telling your subs to handle everything but highs. Bad bad bad.

My system also has a separate knob for the gain on the subwoofers. I call it the cop killer because they write tickets here for disturbing the peace. I can easily crank that all the way down anytime I see a local around.

Once you get everything flatlined, you can stage your sound the way you want it. I tech mine to female rock vocals, which seems to work perfectly. If you do the vocals and the high percussives first, it is easy to add everything else in.

I haven't yet since its been about 20 degrees here lately and i've got no garage. Its supposed to warm up this week so I'll deffinately check on it then.
 
i had the same thing in my bonerville...moved the system over to other cars and havent had the same results....only differences was wiring harness and where it was grounded.

I agree especially the relay, the audiobahn amps are very prone to those pops
 
Hmmm... never would have thought about the relay idea. Might have to look into that.

I do know my ground spot isn't the greatest but it was all I could come up with at the time. My amp is mounted to the top of my box so the only close spot for a ground (that wasn't drilling through my rear shelf somehow) was to my strut tower. I did sand it off but perhaps not well enough. Where else would you suggest the ground to go?

And my gain isn't turned up much at all right now. about half if that.
 
i am not saying you can have a 50 foot ground here, but you can have a decently long ground as long as it is to a good piece of bare metal, not a secondary piece of metal. I grounded mine on the passenger side right beside the hump the the tire is. I am pretty sure you can see it in one of the pics I posted up in the audio section. That should be a good starting point.
