97 grand prix gt shifter locking

Hello I have a 97 grand prix gt and lately when its in park and i try to shift to a gear or reverse its locked..but it happens every time i start it. I don't know what is wrong someone please help! if i put the key in the safety key lock thing it works but why does this happen every time??

Could be... that's where I would start. On my bonnie I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the Park/Neutral Safety Switch was messed up. But I would start with the solenoid.

Pull the center console lid off and observe the white rocker piece. Mine got out of whack once and it was getting stuck somehow. I removed the rocker because I know how to manually bypass if I have to. The rocker though or the soleniod is likley the issue.
