walleyealx's GXP (headers finally installed, video on last page)

Re: Finally got my Grand Prix GXP

Im in Grand Rapids, you should definetly try and snag up a winter beater. Im driving mine for the winter here in GR but our winter isnt gunna be as bad as yours way up north.

Re: Finally got my Grand Prix GXP

Is there a way to tell if it's had a PCM tune before? I ask this because whenever I switch into tapshift mode there is distinct whine coming from the engine.

Re: Finally got my Grand Prix GXP

Why would that indicate a tune?

I really don't know. I figured that when I switch from 1st gear in Drive to 1st gear in tap shift nothing really changed.. but the engine started whistling so something was different. It could just be a normal thing that these GP's do I guess.

Re: Finally got my Grand Prix GXP

It doesn't change anything. Its just as if you drop a non tap shift car down into 1st.

That's why I was asking. There is a noticeable noise that comes out when I switch to tap-shift while not moving. I know that some of the tunes mess with the DOD and other stuff so I was thinking that might have something to do with it, but I guess I'm probably wrong.

Re: Finally got my Grand Prix GXP

No, you are on to something. There are specific torque abuse parameters and trans shift properties active during tapshift selection, as well as others in D. You could modify said tables using a tuner such as DHP, or there is HPT which unfortunately has less modifiable options available.

Re: Finally got my Grand Prix GXP

Got the headers in yesterday, gonna have them installed soon. Ordered the overkill PCM today, I don't really know how long it will take to get that. I'm going to order the chrome speed grill when I get the core refund back for the PCM.

Going to probably get two more 18x8's for the rear and get four LM-60's before the 3-month long blizzard starts up here.

Will get more pics when everything is in!

Re: Finally got my Grand Prix GXP

Got the overkill PCM in yesterday and installed it myself! (most intense thing i've ever done before that was change a bulb :p, but it was very easy to do).

Also got a set of 17" rims and General Altimax Arctic's put on today just in time for the blizzard. I have been driving around for a while and I can honestly say that it seems to handle as good as my expedition did with all seasons.

Snapped a quick pic before the real snow started to set in. I actually like the look of the moda md10's on it.

Only three things left to do now:

-Get the headers installed (have them sitting here at home)
-Get a chrome speed grille set (going to do after the snow is gone)
-tranny cooler

I'm really loving this car!!

Re: walleyealx's GXP (Just got my winter tire set put on, pic inside)

Looking good, wish I had the funds to get things done as fast as you lol.

Kinda of sucks you're already getting snow, we're most likely soon to follow since I am in the lower region.

Re: walleyealx's GXP (Just got my winter tire set put on, pic inside)

Was trying to remote start the car and just hear clicking. Looked up online as to why this might be happening and it seems as though if any dash error lights are on then the remote start is disabled.

After I installed the PCM I had the OBD light come on and at the time I thought it had something to do with the "oil life remaining" indicator because it reset to 0% after the install. What do you think could've caused the OBD light to come on? Did I loosen a wire or something?

It's this light: http://davidmaina.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/engine.png

Re: walleyealx's GXP: OBD light came on after PCM install, any idea why?

Is this your first PCM remove/replace.... I think you missed the case learn procedure.

from a different thread here...

You will throw a code and get the SES light, yes. Intense PCM's are notorious for doing it - it isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I honestly don't know what they do/change that is different from anyone else.

As for how/where to get a case learn - either the dealership or anyone that has a TechII or a Snap-On scanner. What needs to be run? "DTC 1336 - Crankshaft Position (CKP) System Variation Not Learned".

What does it do?

The crankshaft position system variation learning feature is used to calculate reference period errors caused by slight tolerance variations in the crankshaft, the crankshaft balancer interupter rings, and the crankshaft sensor hall effect switches. The calculated error allows the PCM to accurately compensate for reference period variations. The crankshaft position system variation learning feature enhances the ability of the PCM to detect misfire events over a wide range of engine speed and load.

The crankshaft position system variation values are stored in the PCM non-volatile memory after the crankshaft position system variationlearn procedure has been performed. DTC 1336 set indicates that the crankshaft position system variation values have not been stored in the PCM and the crankshaft position system variationlearn procedure must be performed. The learn procedure is required after the following service procedures have been performed, regardless of whether or not DTC P1336 is set:
PCM replacement
Engine replacement
Crankshaft replacement
Crankshaft balancer replacement
Crankshaft position sensor replacement
Any engine repair(s) which disturbs the crankshaft/harmonic balancer to crankshaft position sensor relationship.

IMPORTANT: Be certain that they DO NOT select "REFLASH PCM" - if they do - you will have a stock PCM....again.

I guess that was probably it, but I thought the car wouldn't go above 45mph or something in that case. I'll probably just call a dealer up tomorrow and get it done.

Re: walleyealx's GXP

Nice!! I wish I could be there too... I like the packers a lot as well, so I'm happy either way (though I think the packers should let the lions win because they are going to the playoffs no matter what anyways :th_laugh-lol3:)

Re: walleyealx's GXP

Ordered some different styles of mesh from customcargrills.com and finally got them cut, polished, clear-coated, and put back in.

I'm pretty dang happy with them. I'm still deciding whether or not to do anything with the lower grille.

Headers and trans cooler are going in later this week.

Re: walleyealx's GXP (new upper grille installed, pic on last page)

Looks great already, would look even better with matching bottom.

Re: walleyealx's GXP (new upper grille installed, pic on last page)

Use the same mesh for the lower grills, cut out where the small lights are and it will look great
Good work on the upper grill, love it
