ok i have been contemplating how to fix the stupid weather stripping on the top of our doors that people will rip off opening and closing the doors. so i got an idea and found a replacement. i found 3M universal weather stripping at autozone and its $20 for 8 feet. so on a 2 door 1 roll will get you about a door and a half so buy 2 rolls (you will need about 10 feet total) and kep the extra...still beats $70 per door. so these are the before:

this is the new weather stripping:

after cleaning the door well, simply peel the backing off and stick the stripping on the top part of the door well (not the door itself) with the double sided tape, this way peoples hands wont rip it off any more:

now peel the old stuff off. the point is to make the stripping come between the door and roof and watch the door seal:

at first the door takes a litte extra effort to close but after a while it becomes easier, i have yet to test it in heavy rain but i will update on how it holds up. please ask any questions neccessary.

hope this helps!

well i drove thru a good storm last night and no leaks! door is easy to close now and the stripping is staying on just fine, an easy fix if you ask me

I noticed my weatherstripping is doing the same thing, I'll keep this in mind when it starts getting bad.

thanks guys, i will be doing this to my other door, i like the outcome, and i agree on the sticky!

Solid. So did u take it all off on the door then?

I'm wondering this too..
Mine are leaking and I wanna do this before it gets much colder.

So if I understand correctly, the part that is peeling off the door itself is the part you peel off the rest of the way? (that little 1/4" thick flap?)

Car quieter like this?

Noticed that higher end cars have two door seals and cheap ones have one.

That little lip at the top on our cars I dont consider to be significant.
