trap speed...

what is the normal trap speed for a mid 14 sec gtp. i went 14.6 at 91mph. i just noticed tdc old times were 14.4 at 96. does my trap speed seem a little low. my plugs were pretty off with gaping and i had a plug wire that wasent all the way on, on the back side that might have slowed my mph down. but i was just wondering what is normal mph for a 14 sec car???

sounds about right. low 13s are usually high 90s, low 100s. high to mid 12s are usually around 105-110.

yea i guess. everyone around my time was a few mph faster tho. i wonder if the AL 104's were hurting me. maybe i needed the 605's.

youve got to know these cars dont have a top end without some kind of valvetrain mods. we have good low end. hense faster times with a lower trap than other similarly matches cars.

Traction plays a huge role in the mph on your timeslip. If you spin bad or just dont launch the car hard it will have a higher mph..... doesnt sound like it makes sense but the mph is a calculated number and not a true mph which is why some tracks your mph seems lower or higher beyond normal varations. I friend of mine ran 14.0s at 100mph with rockers and grand prix store pcm... this was in early 03 before there was much out yet pcm wise but it got the job done. One time at the track just after a 14.0 run at 100 he spun bad because it was very cold and no track prep and ran a 14.2 at 102. Low to mid 90s is about right though for a mildly modded car in typical whether and the better you can launch the car-less tire spin the quicker the car will be but the lower the mph will be.

well judgeing by my 60 foot can we tell if its off then??? it was a 2.1 along with tdc. he needs to hurry up and chime in :)

maybe its just the way i take off the initail line. idk. i guess the only true way to find out is if i go back and try it agian.

idk if this helps but 1/8 was 9.3 at 74mph. so i only picked up 17mph in the back half. idk maybe it is normal

I haven't been in the track in a long time. But w/ my mild setup CAI, 3.4", AL 104s, PEMs, 3" DP, 1.9 Rockers I ran a 14.1 @ 99 mph w/ a 2.4 60 ft and I was spinning bad off the line. If I could of had sticker tires and a 1.9-2.0 60ft my 1/4 mile time would of been much better. Then again i couldn't complain, it was a 100% street trim, 3/4 gas in the tank, spare + jack in place w/ my toolbox, 35psi in the tires.

Used to be true with me....but now I trap consistent 13.20's on a hot day at 107mph.

I can't wait to see what happens when I get the alky tuned to complete 100% and the days start to get cooler again.

havent gone to the track for awhile since my old trans blew, but im currently running the the mods in my sig, but with the 3.3" pulley and 20-21* of timing with a few blips of KR on 89octane(wb is pegged in "RCH" >.<) tune with alky nozzle M2
when i had rockers i ran a 13.6@102 with a 2.15-2.2 60' with the alky with a larger nozzle but that was in cooler weather at like 40*F.
edit-best with the rockers was [email protected] last winter b4 the vs cam was ina dn the trans died

im hoping to run my ssic with around 18-20* of timing and whatever pulley i can run without ever seeing a blip of knock.

hows that working for you? ive been thinking about running that instead of my ssic and selling it.

Believe it, it really works. Kills KR flat off with a 50/50 mix of distilled water...but I've been slowly moving up to 70%, then 80% and I'm doing a 3.0 daily now, no KR...but when I hit 100% it really leans the car. And then I'll start to get KR in the mid range of 2nd gear. The reason I want to go to 100% is to keep from slowing the flame front with the humidity of the fuel mixture.

I don't really have many official times with it though, the last time I went to the track was over two months ago right after I put it on, and the PCM was pulling all of my timing at launch because of TM. Now that I've taken 99% of it out, it may be a different story. 107 MPH trap speeds should put me in the 12.80's easily if I can keep the timing up at takeoff.
