ported or sealed box for 2 12's

ok so i should get sealed if i buy pre-fab. how many watts can i run off the battery? (like some ppl have spare batteries for powering the high powered systems)

On a stock battery if your peak output will be more than 600 watts you will either need to do a big three upgrade or upgrade the battery. I have 1000 watt in my car and they dim the lights pretty bad. I also have a sealed box. It all depends on your music preference. If you listen to a lot of rap go ported. You listen to a long of like jazz or country go sealed.

you should do your big three before you even put a system in...its an upgrade that will cost you 20$ max and the difference is well worth the money. if its done right its great for any electrical system

Or you can avoid a Big3 and light dimming by turning down bass boost. Won't be as loud, but it will be... lazier.

Bass boost? Bass boost clips the signal all to hell, and should be avoided at all costs. Edit: Forgot to respond to the OP. Honestly, 1 decent 12 ported can keep up with 2 sealed from my experience. Check out www.obsidiancaraudio.com .... one OA-12 is less than $200 shipped. However, as others have stated, it largely depends on your musical preference. Also remember that ported boxes are tuned to specific frequencies which change with musical tastes and different woofers.... so definitely stay away from pre-fab ported enclosures.

bass boost is not a volume knob! build ported box per specs for what ever sub. capacitors are a joke for anything over 1k watts buy a HO alt and a batcap or xtatic battery specifically designed for car audio. IMO 12s and up belong in a ported box 8's and 10s sounds great in a sealed box, it all depends on what you listen to.

I agree with this.

I don't.

As long as you abide by physics you can make any speaker sound the way you want. 12's are no different than 8's except for size. Size has nothing to do with whether it should be sealed, bandpassed, ported, horn'ed...whatever. Thiele-small specifications help you consider "best" application for a speaker.

2 kicker comp vr
1200 watt amp
sealed box

14.4 volts with volt booster

No issues plus thjis set up is 5 years old lol

won one 2nd place trophy in 07

Lol I'm poor to bro... I have a rather well-off acquaintance who charges 30 to set amps with an o-scope. I figured it was worth the small investment to know my signal is clean.
