What is the name of the part the heater core hoses hook into?

This part has a nipple that connects into the part that the water pump is bolted onto. When removing this part, it's nipple broke off in the part where the water pump bolts onto.

The name of the part would be greatly appreciated, or a link to a schematic so I can find it on my own. Also, if you have one, I would like to purchase it.

Or the upper piece that screws into the alternator bracket?
 
Not the elbows, it's a solid metal piece. I had a 97 GP that incorporated the alternator bracket into the cooling system, but I don't think this one does. Unfortunately the car is at a friend's place and I won't be able to actually look at it for at least another week. I'm sorry I can't be more descriptive.

It's got an inlet/outlet for the heater hoses, and another outlet (nipple) on the bottom that slides into the part that the water pump bolts onto.

The part circled in red is what I'm referring to, and the part in blue is what it's connected to. I am trying to get the names of both parts and will likely need both parts, so if you have some for sale, please let me know.
 
I just Googled the heck out of Grand Prix heater hoses and was able to find out the part that broke and the belt tensioner is all one unit, and it's obviously called the belt tensioner. But I don't remember the tensioner being attached to this part on my model; I wonder if it varies per year? One down, one to go-- now to find the name of the part the bottom outlet on the tensioner fits into.
 
You broke the timing cover. This is why 99+ on the W body and 00+ on the H body GM swapped that lower metal cast elbow with a plastic one.

Accessory path tensioner and timing cover. I have a spare timing cover sitting on the shelf. Holler if you would like a price.

You broke the timing cover.


The timing cover itself isn't exactly broken, but the elbow from the tensioner assembly is stuck in it. I haven't tried to extract the broken piece yet, but I'm definitely going to give it a shot. Have you ever tried this? Any luck?
 
I've never broken said part. :th_king-evil: (it's one of the only ones..that I haven't.)

I'd start by soaking the ever loving life outta the outside of it with PB or another penetrating lubricant. You need to try and break up some of the corrosion holding it in place. After a couple hours of soaking..then do your best to be gentle. Up and down movement can break the timing cover.

Since you haven't..you are a lucky SOB. Tyipcally it breaks the timing cover before the tensioner.
 
I really appreciate your posts, you seem to post a lot around here and it's always good information.

I'm thinking of soaking it with PB Blaster, lightly tapping it with a BFH, possibly using a chisel or punch, and a lot of wiggling.
 
I wouldn't suggest BFH'ing it. You are tyring to get aluminum out of a piece of aluminum. If you beat either piece of aluminum too much..el crackoooooo then future suckage applies
 


When I break one I tap the bottom in farther to flip the top down, then hook it with a screw driver and pop it out.

Sounds like a good idea, I'll definitely give it a shot. It sounds like this is a regular occurrence for you!? Sorry to hear that!

I don't plan to slam it with a BFH, just tap repeatedly and softly, intending to use the impact of the dense BFH to break free the corrosion and whatever else is holding the piece in place.
 


For future reference, the broken piece of the metal elbow (part of the tensioner) that was lodged in the timing cover came out very easily, with just a couple taps with a punch, then I was able to dislodge it out with a screw driver. *phew*
