Love the ZZP **** talkers on this site. Especially when you have ABSOLUTELY no experience. 115+ traps on my ZZP mail order turbo tune for well over a year.
Just a suggestion, if you only want 5-6 psi of boost, wouldn't it be more economical to top swap?
Yes. If they are not looking for a lot of power or incredibly low boost with a turbo then there's no reason to even consider doing a turbo swap.
With a turbo kit, you will probably get more MPG, and run MUCH faster per dollar than a top swap.
Top swap requires about as much labor as a turbo install goes (assuming you can throw a 2.5inch downpipe together quickly or buy one). I have turbo'd many cars for less than $800 in parts, including extras like tuning / wideband / gauges. A few locals have been able to replicate this as well.
As far as running a turbo un-intercooled... I would do that well before running a supercharger un-intercooled, lol. You can get your turbo in whatever size you wish, you should shoot for around 45lbs of net flow potential. A GM4 turbo was commonly sold by zzp for what you are trying to do, as they were a stock truck turbo that could be had for about $100 for some time. They sold a few kits for that turbo, for around $800 in bolt on format, so as you could imagine you could toss something together easily enough if you were diligent about it.
Honestly, If I get another DD, I am probably going to put a crap turbo setup on one of my GTP's just for the fun factor of having a turbo over a supercharger. After I put a cam, exhaust, smaller pulley on any of my GTP's I would probably only be a few bucks away from putting a turbo on it.... My advantage now is that I have a few turbos, intercoolers, hot pipes laying around to make the process fairly simple.
