which gasoline brand is better?

another thing to look for is a station with alot of business. a busy station means fresh fuel gets brought in more often.

I usually buy Sonoco, Lukoil, or Exxon, but I'm always trying to get BP - For some reason, some of their stations get me better mileage.

I actively avoid Turkey Hill, since I'm told their fuel is often filthy.

IK this thread is dead but i figured it would b interesting to bring it back and see what people are using these days... I use Valero gas. i have a n/a but i run 93 and man does American gas make a difference. i average about 23.9 mpg city. good for a 3.8. highway, i have no clue. don't use it for ****. shell and pride, i get 19.7. screw that. btw, pride does not filter their gas so if u wanna change ur fuel filter earlier, buy their crap.

Venezuela owns valero, i don't buy from there , ever!

Valero Gas Stations= CITGO = Venezuela = Chavez

I use Shell V-power almost exclusively and have been averaging about 26-27MPG's in my STi.

^detailed information on my driving style and fuel economy over the past 4K miles.

I had no choice but to fill up at a Marathon while I was out of town for a wedding this past weekend. The Marathon was busy and right next to I-76 in Canton, OH so I know they don't have "old" gas.

Full to 3/4th of a tank is usually gets me about 70 miles of combined driving, I can get 95-100 miles if it's all highway.

Full to 3/4th of a tank of the Marathon 93 octane got me about 55 miles of all highway driving. I'd say less than 20 MPG average but I haven't filled up again since then so I can't calculate it for sure yet. I travel at posted speed limits and drive more conservatively than your grandmother and this trip home was no exception. It was raining so I was even more cautious than usual, probably never exceeded 60-65MPH.

My SS/SC and GTP both loved shell V-power as well. I'll continue using Shell only whenever I can.

I use Shell only. My chipped piston seems to be happier with their gas than anyone else's, runs smoother and better gas mileage. I've gone to Gate a couple of times since their gas was like .20 cents cheaper than Shell at the time, I lost about 2 mpgs with the same driving. Went back to Shell and my mileage went back up.

Most of the stations around here are Shell, BP, Circle K, and a few Sunocos. There are two Shells a block apart from each other near campus.

Well, we have too many choices around where I live, the two that are close are a BP and a Phillips 66, both across from each other. Then there is 3 speedways just a few mins down the road in each direction :th_laugh-lol3:

I use speedway gas all the time, When I'm not near a speedway, I'll hit up Gas America or Marathon. Gas America and Marathon have the same gas as speedway, because Marathon owns them. This is why you see a Marathon tanker dropping off fuel at speedway or Gas America.

Now if I know I won't make it to either of those, I'll stop at a BP. Phillips 66 near me has always had problems with water in their gas for some reason.

well it seems that there are quite a few stories of those swearing by shell reducing KR and adding MPGs. now the question is why this is??

but i buy 93 e10 (everything has up to 10% ethanol so whatever that means for 93) at kroger, because i get 3 cents off or 10 cents depending when we went grocery shopping. car runs fine on it.

but yeah, if someone can back this shell thing up, i'll make the switch. i used to buy shell all the time when i had lots of $ saved up and started driving.

my great-grandfather drove gas tanker trucks for years and years and years back in the day, and he swears by shell. so maybe there is some truth to it?

It's possible their octane ratings are off. I know a guy that worked at a Wawa where the 92 rated 94. I wouldn't be surprised if Shell's 93 rates a 96 or something.

Every pump I've ever seen has some small print under the advertised octane rating that says something like "Minimum RON +/-2" or something to that effect. It's possible that V-power is actually a 94+ octane fuel but it could also be 91 octane.

Even if it did its not going to make you more power.

Octane is ron+mon/2

Even to that effect, octane isn't adding power. It's only allowing the car not to hit knock.

And by not knocking the computer doesn't have to pull wot timing advance and you make more power. So right, running higher octane fuel doesn't make more power in itself, it only allows the car to run properly and make the power it has the potential to make.
