Hey, Im from Chicago and recently purchased a 01 GTP. Long story about how I got it. Long story short I orig. purchased a 1997 Trans Am WS6 with a 6 speed (oh man!) with tons of mods. Vet rims, headers, exausht, tuned pcm, cam shaft, blah blah. The thing HAULED ASS! only problem is about 4 days of after purchasing it the vehicle died....

Heres where the fun begins!

So I take it to my good friend who has been a mechanic for 20+ years. He immediately gets his snap on diagnostic computer and connects it to the car.

It doesnt connect.

He ensures the snap on is working properlly and tests it agian. Doesnt work.

Installed a new bat, alternator, blah blah. Its STILL DEAD!

I eventually make my way back to the dealer and tell them my story. Luckily for me they returned the vehicle 100%. I didnt loose a dime on the purchase. Only catch is I have the purchase another one of there vehicles.

The next day I come back to the dealer to purchase my new (used) car. The dealer says "I have the perfect car for you!" ...(another trans am?...Maby??..no.) He shows me a 01 GTP! Im like "Hot damn!"

I never really looked at the cars as I did that day. They are very very well built and very nice on the inside. Its got that everlasting 3.8 in there too!

Now here comes financing! He takes me in the room and tells me about the car:

2001 Grand Prix GTP
Silver
66K miles
Bone stock (a good thing)
in VERY VERY good condition. (Not 1 ding, sratch, or 1 spot of rust, and the inerior is MINT)

He tells me he wants $12K for it.. I tell him to go flip a roast cuz im not paying that. After a long dispuite i go outside with the salesman and look at other cars. The next car he shows me is a 1997 Honda Accord. :th_thumbsup-wink:

Yea! A detaged 1997 Accord (No offense but it represents a "Indian" sort of look to it) The salesman says i can give it to you for 1K more than the TA. He called it a "50K mile cream puff"

As soon as I heard that I began swearing repedetlly at the saleman telling him is a broke ass crook who sold me a dead car and now is still trying to rip me off. Mind you there are several customers watching this who are LEAVING because they hear my story.

Finally the head honcho comes out and tells me he will give me the GTP for 8K if i shut up. I did. And now I drive a very nice 01 GTP.

Thanks for reading :)

Sorry to hear about the TA. Good choice with the GTP though. Amazing how that "I can't lower the price any" attitude changes once they know your not playing and taking all their other customers with you. Well done man!!! And by the way, welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the community.

Very nice read. Probably about the most interesting GP ownership story I have read in a while. Glad to have you here.

Welcome to the forums!!! I would never own another LT1 powered vehicle..unless they redid the ignition system to a regular distributor.

GP is by FAR a better choice!!! gas mileage FTW!!
