Cleaning the throttle body/MAF is probably a good idea too. I'd also dump a can of Seafoam in a full tank of gas and run that through to clean the injectors.
 


So you have been driving the car for 6 months now, haven't checked it over or done a tune up, nor have you checked the mileage the correct way, by hand, and you wonder why you are getting bad gas mileage?

Not to mention you drive fast and probably accelerate hard. Number one way to save gas, don't accelerate as hard. Number two way to save gas, slow down.
 
Next time you fill up, just try the paper method. It'll take 2 seconds and confirm how messed up your dic is. I reset my trip and dic after every fill up and mine is always +or- 1 to 2 mpgs.

That's how mine is.

When I just drive like I stole the car I get about 15 avg.
Normal driving (playing at times, city and highway mix) is 19-20.
Solid highway on trips I get low 30s+/- (28mpg from Durant, Ok to Dallas, Tx with the ac on and I hit 120 3xs showing a civic who was boss)

I can't drive 55 but I don't have a game plan to blow up the engine either. Its my reliable toy and DD and I'm happy with her, for the most part :th_laugh-lol2:
 
what you need to know is if you are doing the math to calculate you mileage, is you need to fill the tank, set your trip, or write down your mileage then run it down to Empty, then go back and fill it up again, take the gallons you just put in the tank, and divide your miles traveled.

so if you are not filling up your tank, you will never know your true mpg. this is the only way it works.

No, I haven't totally torn everything down to check everything out because it runs nice and smooth so besides mpg concerns I had no reason to. And you "assume" I drive fast because I don't drive 5mph BELOW the speed limit? And no, I DON'T accelerate hard! Its not a racecar, I have no mods, its not fast, and im not in a race to blow my **** up. Do yourself a favor and stop assuming things. Lmao

I'm not assuming anything at all here. I'm just going by your own words:

Now im sure you'll ask about my driving habits, well im def not driving ms. Daisy but im not racing it around town. 5-10 over speed limit at the most.

You said yourself you drive fast. Over the speed limit is fast to me. It is a limit and you are over that. And you said yourself in the first post that you don't drive like you are a chauffeur. So I am taking that to mean you don't drive your car nice and easy like a chauffeur would, but rather you drive aggressively at times, like many of us are known to do. If you want to change your story or get all huffy with me, by all means go ahead, I don't really care. Just going off of your first post and trying to offer the easiest and cheapest suggestions to get better mileage. #1 Don't accelerate so hard and start driving like a chauffeur and #2 Slow Down. It's quite simple.
 
I meant I drive like normal ppl do, not under the speed limit like an old sunday driver lol. I don't beat on it, so please don't over analyze what I say. Thanx for the advise everyone
 


I average 25 with city and hwy if its mostly city its usually around 19-20 mostly hwy at 70 is 29-30.
 
I sometimes find it funny when people say not to accelerate hard. I punch it to 4k - 4500 quite often when I'm getting up to speed. The longer it takes you to accelerate the longer you stay in the inefficient RPM range. 10 seconds of 5mpg + 20 seconds of 30mpg is actually more efficient than 30 seconds of 15mpg. Btw I average 24-26 combined, all freeway anywhere from 35-43mpg depending on the day. One of these days I'm going to take the time to calculate the efficiency in different gears at specific increments so I can gauge how to accelerate in the most efficient way possible.

EDIT: I figured I should also offer my $.02 on actually improving your economy lol. Do the regular maintenance as everyone suggests, and cleaning the MAF and TB is definitely worth it. My car ran 10,000% better after I did it. It also fixed my problem of having to give it a little gas when I would start the car.

The DIC hasn't been correct once in all of my fill ups. The closest its ever been is off by .6 mpg. Do the math. It takes 10 seconds.
 
I actually just bought a new fuel filter today. Not like its gonna help....but it wont hurt. Lol btw, tried pulling off spark plug boot....doesn't seem to wanna come off. Im curious on what the spark plugs look like.

Twist and Pull... they're boogers too get off after being on for a while. Just the way they are, most likely nothing "wrong" with them if your not showing a misfire or a check engine light.

They factory AC Delcos claim a 100,000 mile life expectancy (assuming its driven easily for that 100k) most last 80k(ish) that I've seen. Really depends on the driver and the car maintenance.

i try to wear leather work gloves when pulling the plug wires, when they let loose, i always tend to get cut up when my hands hit what ever is in the path of force.

give the wires a good twist back and fourth ( where the wire covers the plug) before pulling on them.
 
I average somewhere between 16 - 17 mpg. That with a mix of highway and street driving. Mostly street driving. I track my mileage with the DIC and an application on my phone. The DIC is pretty accurate. Mine's averaged around 0.1 to 1 mpg difference.
