2007 Grand Prix GXP Remote will not lock/unlock/start but will open trunk and alarm

My Remote for my 2007 GXP was working fine but last month the lock/unlock/remote start stopped working on the remote. However, the remote for the trunk unlock and alarm functions work from 200 yards away. I hope there is an easy fix like reprogramming.....? help! :th_skull:

Hold down the lock and unlock button at the same time for several seconds. Then try locking/unlocking. I think that is what I had to do one time.... lemme look deeper.

Yeah hold down lock+unlock near your car for 10+ seconds, if that doesn't work, then you will either need a scan or bring it to a dealer to reprogram.

Ok i just tried holding down the lock/unlock buttons at the same time for 10 seconds and it did not work. I found a website that says I have to have special equipment to reprogram the remote....

Pontiac>Grand Prix - Free Keyless Remote Fob Entry programming instructions, procedures for all automotive vehicles

It also gives instructions to program remotes for other Grand Prix years of manufacture.

Yeah, the older ones didn't have the security features like the 04+, PK3+. If you have a scan tool supposedly you are able to do it. Read this:

Help programming key fob.... - GM Inside News Forum

Hello. My 2006 GT remote was doing the same thing. After going the new battery route with no improvement. I finally came up with a solution that has been working for the last 4 months. I took the remote apart cleaned the push buttons with alcohol and a cotton swab making sure to get the gunky film off of the buttons so they can properly conduct juice across the contacts on the circuit board. Next I put a thin shim under the circuit board so as to bring the circuit board closer to the buttons. Thirdly I cleaned the circuit board's contacts up as well. Now the remote works just like new. I would try this approach before going to the HI $$$$$$ dealership. If the remote's programing was gone none of the functions on the remote would work. It is an all or nothing thing IMO.

HOPE THIS HELPS

My guess is the buttons are worn down and no longer make good contact. I had same issues and bought a replacement fob+button pad and put my board in it. Works perfect now.

Nice pictures RideMr2. I will pull the remote apart tonight, clean and take a look at the inside. Maybe it is worn too and I'll buy another if it is worn. I got the remote new Feb of last year. Guys thanks for your comments and pictures this forum rocks. :)
