Aftermarket Amp and Sub With Stock Stereo

I am picking up my 2006 Grand Prix tomorrow that we just bought. It has an in dash navi systen and I was wondering if I can add an amp and subs to it? If so, how hard is it?

^^^^^^^^^ and it will sound like a warm pile of poop!!

is the navi an aftermarket deck?? alpine pioneer kenwood.....??

Hm, mine sounded good. I had the settings a bit off at one point and it caused the trunk lid to flex when it hit. Maybe tuning is just harder this way. I dunno.

Stock Navigation....jealous. I have an 04 GTP CompG without Monsoon even. I got scammed =p Why couldn't I have the Monsoon and Digital climate =p It has everything else GM ever decided to put in our cars. Luck of the draw I guess.

Feel lucky you have the stock nav. those units are mind boggling expensive!

I haven't really had much time to play with the navi yet but I am sure I will like it. I do wish though that I could play MP3's. By the way, I don't have the digital climate either lol.

It's interesting how GM would put every option known to man in the cars and then just not put a fancier option in when its already got bells and whistles. I understand that sometimes its a dealer installed item so they can sell the car higher. I wished I had the 6-disc monsoon system. I am glad I have Xm Radio built in. I drove two other cars for a very long time with extra equipment always around. I like stream lines and orignal looking equipment. =)

So are you suggesting there is no other way to run subs to factory unit?

you can but dont expect much.....you can have $5k in subs and amps, if the signal is shiity it will sound like it!

save up and get a good deck.... :th_winking:

he will have to take out the factory navigation for a "deck" then loose steering wheel controls and need a security bypass module

to original poster, does your stereo have a factory amp in the trunk?

I have not yet seen a factory amp in the trunk, at least not without moving any carpet to see. I do have a Kenwood DVD deck in my Grand Am that is available now but I do like the on board navi and was hoping to keep the current deck because of it.

the monsoon amp is located under the rear deck inside the trunk, if you can't see it right away when you look inside the trunk at the back, in the middle, at the top, its not there

so after you put in a sub, you will have very weak mids and highs, they will be your next area you will want to upgrade, just opening up a huge can of worms if your asking me

lots of work and money for better sound, but if thats very important then go for it

I did see a monsoon amp located where you said. I think the speakers have been upgraded. they are 3-way JVC 290w. Is that what is stock?
