• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

It's my luck that everytime I decide to set my mind on saving money, something with the car has to go on.

So coming home from my friends house, everything seems fine. Eventually I hear a noise coming from the car, stop at the stop sign and listen to it, it's unfamiliar never heard it before. Drive a block drop off my friends and the noise gets louder.

The video I took my or may not help explain the situation to you, but it was all I was able to take at this time in the night. I am pretty aggravated by it too, sounds like a belt, nothing seems wrong with the belts. Sound seem to be coming from all over the place too. The friends I was with either heard from near the tire, from the engine, or near the pulleys/belts.

I can try and take a better video tomorrow.

Few things to note: Noise gets louder when pressing on the gas, and a few times the car literally just shut off on me. Once when I put the car in drive. I put it in drive and turned the steering wheel to the right just off right away. And once again as I am going down some street, car begins to die down, I can barely steer, but I try to get it into the right lane. As soon as I come to a complete stop, car turned off. Turned it back on, made my way home, and not going to bother with anything till probably Monday, once I am done with work.

Hmmm, it does sound close to that, but not as bad, I dont think.

Is this one of those problems where I am better off selling the car? lol

As in is it probably going to be expensive?

methinks you've got a pretty severe problem there, with the noise its making, and how its behaving...When the car just shuts off like that, its never good.

Maybe someone with a more experience ear can chime in, but it sounds internal, and something is banging around on 1 cylinder each revolution.

If your car sounds like this. Here's the way to prove out what's going on.

Start the car.. once it's running give it a quick rev and let off. Do that 2-3 times. That is often the only vid we need.

Yes, I'm thinking spun bearing. And need that vid to prove the theory. I'm hoping I'm wrong.

Without bein there to see exactly u may have a flat cam lobe or a spun bearing I knw wen I lost a cam lobe in my 79 cutlass sounded exactly like that but u have a roller cam in ur block so they dnt usually fail at all but things do happens at times

I would grab a oil pressure gauge and hook it up a spun bearing will have you have low oil pressure but that tap sounds like valvetrain noise to me and the sputtering and dieing from a valve not opening right. Pull off ur valve rockets and turn the motor by hand and watch all the rockers move

I either have to save up to swap out the engine or I have to sell the car the way it is for dirt cheap. Either way its a pain in the ****ing ass. *sigh*

If I do end up fixing it, will I be able to sell it for about 5k with a lower mileage motor and 122k on the body?

maybe if your car is in good condition you can sell it with a different motor in it.

why not keep it? after all your hard work you're just gonna let someone else drive on it??

Because if i really don't want to be stressing out on a car every now and then. I ve had this car since February, never really did much to the car.

I dunno, just gotta sit down and give this some thought.

i agree. but once you get all the proper maintenance and worn parts out of the way, it'll last you forever. believe me, i feel your pain. ive been working my ass off on mine. i will never own another 97-03 prix again.

maybe the reason you popped the piston is becausee you "never really did much to the car." the motor doesn't like antifreeze. you gotta keep those lim gaskets up to par.

if you cant do the engine swap yourself, paying a shops labor and the cost of a used engine is still cheaper than trying to sell this car and buying a another used car. so if you think your car is worth 5 grand, dont ya think a 1200.00 investment is worth it in the long run? and thats if a shop does the work, if you can do it yourself, its a 4 to 6 hundred dollar investment.

whats this the 4 th engine this month? wth is going on here?
