So yeah, let me tell you that this was the best race I ever had im my GTP driving career. It was a tad risky considering I'm studying to become a police officer, but hell the adrenalyn level boost was worth it :)

So I was coming back home after a night-out with friends from work. I was rolling on the highway at 60MPH when I spotter a red Mustang coming from the back and speeding considerably. It was an old model, I would say the 96-98 generation, a Cobra. The guy was in his sixties, and looked like he knew a thing or two about cars.

So I caught up and went next to him, side to side for a couple of seconds, and then I just riped it. At this very moment he understood I wanted to race, and at this moment some green Mustang GT flew by us...I caught up to the GT and let the driver hear my supercharger whine...He just quit and slowed down. That's when the real fun began.

The Cobra caught up and I pressed the accelerator too late. He passed me, but a couple of seconds after that I caught him again. We stayed side to side for a couple of seconds and then when the tranny shifted I just destroyed him! Thanks to the Overkill PCM, the new headers and the pulley drop. My legs where still shaking 15 minutes after that.

Two more Stangs owned by a Pontiac! Long live the Grand Prix!

Umm you probably dropped to 2nd. 2nd shifts at 84ish and then into 3rd. If you went fast enough to hit 4th at WOT your an idiot.

Why has everyone's kills lately been Cobra's. I'm starting to think people just want an ego boost by lying on the interwebs.

98 Cobra's are mid to high 13's stock at around 305hp. I'm not saying it's not possible, I just suspect people being full of it lately. Got a time slip from the track by chance ?

i think they strongly believe what they race to be a true cobra when in the mustang community everyone wants a cobra and just add cobra bumpers and wheels to gt and sad to say rrrrr v6s. i had a 97 cobra and with exaust and a couple boltons, with sticky tires ran high 12s all day long and you dont see many stock ones running around but i guess anything is possible.

Old Cobra's are slowsauce.

Low 14 cars for the most part.

Ryan's just mad he can't get out of 14's on a mid 13's setup.

Also...if your transmission is kicking back and forth from gears, I'd be worried. Plus...it was a 3 to 2 like that goober said...3 to 4 or vice versa is over 120.

Maybe the 94 & 95 5.0L cobras...

the 4.6L DOHC cobras are wicked. Low 13's is not uncommon on good rubber with a good driver.

the 01+ DOHC are faster yet

the 03/04 termis are ZOMGTEHSEXORZ.

All the 5.0 Cobra's had were the GT40 heads/intake. They aren't fast. Neither are the 4.6 Cobra's of the same body style. Newsflash to people...14's aren't fast, in fact...neither are 13's for that matter really. I went nearly mid 13's on just rockers and a 3.5" pulley with DR's. '99-'01 Cobra's are alright, but they didn't come into their own and really stand out until the Terminator. Now if you want to talk running a Termi or a Cobra R from '00...then get at me. Otherwise...were talking stock cars here...from a roll. Keeping up isn't that hard when both cars are making around the same power. Especially if the Cobra was stock. And since the guy was older than Methuselah.

Yes Yes I am! :th_laugh-pointup: But I swore that model of Cobra was way faster than that.

Nice Kills Either way OP!

10. Sadly, Pontiac is dead.....and so is the Grand Prix. It's ok though, I can fix it. Long live your GTP driving career!!!

I don't believe a GT driver who cared enough to speed up to you and instigate a race, would back off after a rev or two from you. Whether or not you would have won is irrelevant, most GT drivers are too dumb to know any better, and there is nothing scary about a Grand Prix.

I'm on the fence about you beating a Cobra, but hey anything can happen on da streetz I guess. I find it had to believe you destroyed him, but I understand a little exaggeration is needed when you aim to build up your street cred on teh interwebs. I'm sure you got enough firepower to hang with, or beat most of the mustangs you seem to want to pick on. Be careful what Cobra's you f*ck with though, some of them are going to hurt your feelings. I know I personnally would feel pretty bad about ending your GTP driving career early.

Entertaining story though, thanks.

*groan* Another Cobra. Slow, this one is yours.

You could have handled this one yourself slacker. Besides, your replies consistently contain moar LULZ.

Sounds like three minutes of highway ricer flybys and five-second WOT pulls.

Oops I said something I shouldn't have.

Yeah, you're right, and no, I'm not an idiot. My bad, shifted from 2nd to 3rd, lol. The 96-98 Cobra is a fast car, but not crazy fast, therefore it can be beaten by a midly modded GTP. I'm probably putting the same numbers on the dyno, maybe a tad more, but the GTP has a more efficient engine considering more advanced technology, etc.

And I'm not looking for an ego boost, just wanted to share a kill story. I'll go to the drag late august and I'll be pleased to share my results.

"For 1996, Ford finally did away with the aging 5.0 liter V8 in the Mustang, replacing it with a new aluminum 4.6 liter, DOHC, "modular" unit that was smoother and had slightly better fuel economy. This engine produced 305 hp (227 kW) and 300 lbf·ft (410 N·m) of torque, making the new Cobra capable of high-13 second quarter miles."

What were you boltons? Please share your magic!

I just wanted you to know...

The Buick V6, initially marketed as Fireball at its introduction in 1962, was a large V6 engine used by General Motors. The block is made of cast iron and all use two-valve-per-cylinder iron heads, actuated by pushrods.
The 3800 was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines of the 20th century list, made Ward's yearly 10 Best list multiple times, and is one of the most-produced engines in history. To date, over 25 million have been produced.
In 1967, GM sold the design to Kaiser-Jeep. The muscle car era had taken hold, and GM no longer felt the need to produce a V6, considered in North America an unusual engine configuration at the time. The energy crisis a decade later prompted the company to buy the design back from American Motors (AMC), who had by that point bought Kaiser-Jeep, and the descendants of the early 231 continue to be the most-common GM V6 as it developed into a very durable and reliable design.
Though the pre-3800 RWD V6 uses the BOP bellhousing pattern that it inherited from its aluminum V8 ancestor, an oddity of both the FWD and RWD 3800 V6 is that although it is a 90° V6, it uses the GM 60° V6 bell housing. For use in the RWD applications, the bellhousings on both the manual and automatic transmissions are altered slightly.

In summary: The 3800 is older than dirt technology wise...the 4.6 DOHC All-Aluminum Cobra motor, is not.

Glad to know there are still people here who know what they are talking about.

1) I don't see how catching up or vice-versa to someone is fail, anyways.
2) Since my car is debadged, maybe the GT driver thought mine was not supercharged. Maybe he got scared because we were going too fast for him, only God knows.
3) Destroyed means toying around with someone, and then 5 seconds later having a hard time seeing him in your mirror.
4) I was mistaken, it was 3rd to 2nd, my bad.
5) The Grand Prix is not dead, even though it is not produced anymore. It will live as long as people drive them. That's my perspective.
6) There is nothing scary about a STOCK grand prix, get your facts right.
7) I find it had to believe you destroyed him, but I understand a little exaggeration is needed when you aim to build up your street cred on teh interwebs. : We were going above 120MPH, maybe the "chickened out" factor came into play.
8) Be careful what Cobra's you f*ck with though, some of them are going to hurt your feelings. : Thanks for the info, but I already knew that. I drag raced a 2004 modded SVT Cobra, and it was only for fun, knowing for sure I would be behind.
9) I know I personnally would feel pretty bad about ending your GTP driving career early. : It's not a loss that is gonna end my driving career. When I get beaten, It only pushes me to upgrade my car and do better next time.

Oops I said something I shouldn't have.

Add another one to the list that doesn't know what a ricer is. Yes it was three minutes, pulling up to a maximum of 120MPH for a short time.
