Redoing my electrical grounds.

A few months back, the terminal on my ground cable broke off. And for a quick fix I bought one of these from O'Reilly's. And it was shyte. The terminal wouldn't close all the way around the battery post. So I cut it off and bought one of those crappy universal battery terminals. Now I'm having some electrical issues which can probably be traced back to my temporary hack job of fixing my busted ass ground cable.

So give me some info on redoing my grounds. Obviously I will need to run new wire. Since I've cut the wire twice to put on a new terminal, the cable just reaches the battery. Obviously running a new cable from the battery to the chassis is no problem. A six or eight inch pre made cable will suffice. But I need some more info on the engine ground.

So my questions to you are:

Where the crap is the engine ground? I can't see where it's bolted onto the engine. I can follow the wire to somewhere around the starter but I don't see which bolt it is.

Second, would it be feasible to run a cable from the engine ground to the chassis on the passenger side somewhere instead of bringing it back to the battery ground?
 


Your best bet is buy the new GM cable. It's good quality and you'll like it much better than most things you can buy/make for the same or more.

It attaches to the lowest bolt on the transmission to engine.
 
I've looked at Delco cables on rock auto. They list two part numbers. They are both listed as negative battery cables. One is ~$30 and the other is upwards of $90.

Part number 88987119 - $90

Part number 88864702 - $30.

I found a diagram a few days ago, that I can't seem to find again, that basically showed they were both the same part. So which one is right?
 
Basically they are the same cable. The 88987119 shows in my catalog (Im a GM Parts guy) as the factory OEM replacement. The 88864702 is an "all makes" option. Most dealership would use the other one, granted its more expensive but it would most likely be better quality. The cheaper one would be more universal and a substitute for the typical person that says "Oh no that's too much, Ill go downtown", to try and make a sale.

Yeah. Saw the list price on gmpartsdirect. And I agree savings is good, but $90 still for a bit of cable is a lot.
