The bulbs wont work. The relay won't work. Basically none of the stuff from your 9007 kit will work except the ballast i think.

So question, if you already have a 9007 HID setup, with a relay harness, and decide to do a retrofit, once all that is said and done, do you need anything else other than new bulbs?

You need,

9007 bi xenon relay harness,
H1 bulbs

Your ballast will work fine you just need a different harness and H1 bulbs to complete your retro

On the corners or housings themselves? I used rtv to seal your capsules not oci butyl tape if I remember right. I also sold you the complete retro for $200 since it one of the first few I did right? Cant really remember it's been so long ago.

just the corners, it seems like all the aftermarket ones leak :/

I already have a 9007 bi xenon relay harness. I ordered a 9007 bi xenon kit w/ harness from VVME.

So I really just need H1 bulbs.

Thanks for the info there that looks pretty nasty. What type of bulbs were used, morimoto bulbs are supposed to be a cooler running bulb I wonder if those would do that too. Over time I guess they still probably would end up ruining the bowl like that. Guess that's why it says 55wt kit not recommended on the trs website.
I think they used a no name DDM bulb. From looking at a thread full of temp and brightness comparisons, the DDM bulbs seemed to run cooler than the morimotos, although they are dimmer. While heat is a likely cause of that damage, a major contributing factor to consider is UV damage, which 55w usage boost significantly. IMO, no matter what brand you choose, 55w is a bad choice for the minis, they're plenty bright with 35w with no risk of damage.

Hmm that's odd cause talking with Matt at TRS he said Morimoto bulbs run cooler than a ddm or ebay brand type of bulb. In my experience Morimoto's are far superior to any amp style bulb I've ever used. If you're talking Phillips 85122 D2S or D2R bulbs they're even better yet.

The mori mini H1's are plenty bright at 35wt but they do have a lot of foreground light limiting how far you can see in the distance. I wasn't considering 55wt for the mini's anyways I was considering them for a glass lensed fog.

tommy hows the money making business going so far? get any takers? lol

This isn't a chat with your buddy thread about what's going on in your personal life. I'd appreciate you taking anything not hid related to chat or pm's thanks.:th_winking:

Yep should be all you need. TRS emailed me today saying they're coming out with a bi-relay harness that will have 2 12vdc 40amp relays in the relay harness. One for each headlight or foglight, I'll probably switch my relay harness out on my fogs at least since the DDM relay in their harness fried and DDM customer service said no relay harnesses are warrantied, that should tell you something about their harnesses right there.

So clean what would you say is the best bulb as far as brightness goes. I don't mind replacing bulbs more often if they're noticeably brighter.

The mori bulbs are brighter than the ddm bulbs that came with my ballasts for sure. We have some conflicted stories here on what runs cooler and what doesn't. I think Matt's opinion tops all of ours so I'd trust in what he says. Doesn't mean someone else has to believe it or not but kind of interesting how everyone with ddm or vvme bulbs are complaining about melting foglight housings.:th_laugh-lol2:

I also doubt you'll be replacing morimoto H1 bulbs all that often either, haven't had a single problem out of mine in over a year.

I agree that the morimoto bulbs are by far a superior bulb to any other aftermarket bulb out there. They're brighter and last longer than all the competition. Running a little hotter isn't really much of an issue until you push into the 55w range anyways.

I agree with the brighter but Matt isn't the kind of guy that goes around promoting his products to be better than someone elses. I'm pretty sure he does plenty of business and doesn't need to make false statements to sell products. If he said Mori bulbs run cooler well then I believe him. What temperature chart are you seeing that said Mori's run hotter I'd like to forward that to him and see what he says about that.

At 35w the mori bulbs in the mori H1's seem to run very cool. I left them on a good 20-25 minutes while stationary on rojo's retro and when I touched the shroud it was only warm. The projector lense was pretty hot but that's kind of expected imo.

Oh he doesn't sell the Philips bulbs?

He sells Phillips bulbs but they're for D2S and D2R projectors none of those will fit that type of projector into a 97-03 housing without some major modification. He also sells Osram bulbs but here's a link....

HID Bulbs from The Retrofit Source Inc

Edit that...

$70.00 looks like they're made by phillips......

Theres Mori 3five H1's

Edit again, reading on not associated with Phillips Germany

I'd have to see these bulbs in mori H1 projectors before I could justify the extra money over regular mori H1 35 wt bulbs

Ya I saw that at the bottom...
"Please beware: These bulbs used to be sold under the moniker "Philips". While the capsule resembles a real Philips unit, and the base reads "Philips Light Source" -this bulb has no actual affiliation with Philips Germany. "

This is the comparison that I'm going by, Done by one of the most respected members of HID planet, and Matt has already seen the comparisons
