Avg. price to replace Fuel Injector or Cat Exhaust on a 01 grand prix GT?

I had my car checked out today at this Tranny shop where I had my Transmission rebuilt and they told me the computer is not reading my rpm right when I have it maxed on the gas pedal. It thinks its at 5000 rpm when it needs to be 5800 rpm to shift. He told me it could be a easy fix by changing my fuel filter and air filter or might be a bigger fix in the fuel injector or cat exhaust.

I have to take it to a place that works on these kinda problems tomorrow but hoping you guys could gave me a heads up on the pricing before hand. :(

Those fixes sound kind of suspect for a shifting issue.. Best to wait for someone thats better at troubleshooting but you'll want to post some more info. What kind of car? What exactly is the problem that your having?

A blocked cat has been said to cause shifting issues before..

I think that our automatic transmissions work based on how much power is going to/demanded at the wheels, except for the shift point at the redline...

So even though your rpm's might be high, if your cat is blocked or your injectors are not injecting... the power going to the wheels will be much less. So while the rpms are high, the transmission isnt seeing the power to want to shift until a little later.

Am I right or retarded? That's just my noobish thinking.

Thats what they told me. Its shifting perfect for there computer when they took it out for a test run but its not reading my rpm right when I hit the gas pedal hard . It thinks im riding at 5000 rpm when it needs to be at 5800 to shift. I have to let off the gas pedal to make it think I need a different gear.
