Drilling and Tapping Phenolic Spacer

Hey all,

I'm trying to get my new setup together on paper before I start ordering stuff, and I have a question.

Can a Phenolic Spacer (between the blower and the LIM) be drilled and tapped for dual Meth Injection nozzles? The nozzles are 1/8" threading and they're going into a 1" spacer, so I don't see THAT big of a problem with weakening the spacer. The only problem I forsee is that the phenolic material not liking being drilled into. I don't want to spray before the blower, but if I have no other choice, I will.

you can do it, but youre gonan probably need a thicker spacer than an inch. the phenolic material is fine for drilling and tapping so long as you dont really crank down whatever youre tapping into it. it's only plastic, afterall.

however, why go through this effort when spraying it through the blower is much easier and still effective?

Why a thicker spacer?

I want to be different...I have the hood space to run 3 inches worth of spacer, so I'm going to have the spacer under the intercooler and hopefully be able to spray the meth right there.
 
my thoughts are that the spacer wont be thick enough to house the nozzles when its only an inch thick, but i could be wrong. i agree that putting the spray post blower is a better solution, its just not as easy.

have you ever thought about just tapping the lower intake manifold?

I'll look at it first, but I think a 1/8" nozzle has plenty of room on a 1" spacer.

I could do that (LIM)...without going direct port, where would be the best place to tap to get even spray to all cylinders?
 
Another though...I bet could get an aluminum spacer made, cause I'll be using a phenolic intercooler, I won't have the heat transfer between the Blower and LIM. I wonder how much that would cost to fabricate from a solid block of aluminum.
 


there are two 'open' areas on the sides of the LIM where i think it would make a great spot. it seems like the distribution with both spraying would be near perfect.
 
sides of the motor, so looking at the engine bay it would be front and back.

there are two gaps between a couple of the runners, one on each side.
 
gotta remember that the engine is pulling vacuum so really you're just trying to fog the LIM up with meth. when you're under boost it's gonna push it in so it'll be harder to keep a good distribution, but i think you should be fine with those locations because they would equal eachother out.
 


I forgot you asked about tapping the phenolic. Here are the results, looks really good.
1/4" npt drilled and tapped into 1" phenolic.

You will have to drill a pretty deep hole through the side.

haha...it's ok. I figured you were busy and forgot or would get back to me later when you had time.

I'd like to give it a shot...I like being non-conformist and trying new things. If I succeed you might have a lot more business coming your way :D If I fail, I wasted a few hundred dollars and not much more.
 
Howdy All:
Just my two cents worth. Phenolic is a free machining material but very abrasive. Just make sure you use a sharp (new) tap to cut clean threads.
