Put your paperclip away. That was no longer possible after 1994 cars. Your car wants a code reader. Many parts stores will pull the codes for free.

likely you have a stuck open thermostat,.
 


on the thermostat cant a bad one cauz bad mpg? somthing with the cars computer telling it to give the motor more fuel cuz its telling it that the motor is cold? or something along those lines?
 
anyone here do the spline swap? how hard is it to do 1-10 im very mechanical and fix all my stuff myself. :th_skull:
 
Yes a thermostat will cause poor mpgs, that's if you get good mpgs to begin with. But.. a bad coolant sensor (less likely, but possible) could tell the dash one thing and the pcm another.

Yeah..I've done the 4th clutch hub shaft swap. I've also written it out and detailed it a few times here. Pretty sure I even said which bolts need to come out and which don't to keep the VB on teh channel plate. Search away my friend..search away.
 


ok i changed my thermostate and ot had a 190 in it and i put in a 180 and the car still only shows around 120-140 on the dash. where is the coolant temp sensor located? and does anyone know if transmission not working right will throw a code? i will do get codes done at autozone asap

well if you're stock you should have kept the 190.

dont mind the avg. it could be driving habits it could be a lot of things. just make sure you have a good tune up then calculate it by hand. then go from there.
