I'll read the New Testament when you read the Qur'an :D

That wasn't the deal, you said "And I found a unicorn, but I killed it and threw it in the sea." I challenged you to write about it so I can read it. What are you afraid of?

That's all. You made a claim so I said I will read your evidence and you can read my evidence. We can then both make up our minds as to what we believe.

And about the Qur'an. I've been friends with a few muslims, they shared their belief with me, and I gave my views. I like a civil exchange of ideas. Telling me that I need to go read the Qur'an is like telling me to go look for my car keys in the closet when I already have them in my hand. I have already found the Truth.

Write your unicorn book, I'll read it.

I clearly didn't tell you that you "needed" to read anything haha. All I said was that I'll read the New Testament once you read the Qur'an. I am no psychic who can predict that you hang out with Muslim friends, it was a simple reply to what you said, that's all.

And the unicorn thing is a joke, no reason why you seem to be taking it so seriously, or offensively for that matter, I didnt mean it that way.

Well I do agree with your first point, everything else you say is based on stereotypes and bias.

Even if 10 out of 10 people you seen act like that, doesn't necessarily mean that's how it goes.

That's gotta be what a stroke feels like... You've properly and soundly dismissed my comments as bias and stereotypes in your attack... And it does seem that a mere 10 out of 10 statistic would only be embraced by the stupid... Which you force me to recognize... Wait... You know... If I thought there was some anger in that reply, I might think that thing I said was right after all... But a hot response in a 3 minute gap? Well, you know...

No no I'm not taking it personally. We don't have the benefit of tone-of-voice over the internet. Besides, I'd forgive you anyway lol.

One point I do want to make is that Jesus was misunderstood to the Nth degree even when He walked this earth. The only way to cut the crap about who says what and who crams what down whos throat, is to read what the guy actually said.

I challenged myself to actually read what Jesus said, and to try to live that way for real. It's not easy. One thing I think biblebangers and anti-biblebangers have wrong is that true followers of Christ are no better or worse than anyone else. It starts with being honest about our faults and things we do that we shouldn't. Then trying to change that and to act in love when our impulses would have us do otherwise. Not easy at all.

For example let me quote one thing Jesus said. "How can you say to your brother, Let me take the speck out of your eye, when all the time there's a log in your own eye? You hypocrite! First take the log out of your own eye, then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brothers eye. "

Aint dat da truf!

I fail to see the fire he was spitting. He was just pointing out that you pretty much grouped all atheists as the same.

I'm having a hard time following to tell you the truth, however if you're criticizing his last comment, I'd have to say I as a Christian wouldn't want to be grouped with 10 out of 10 "Christians" either.

It has already been brought to my attention that the whole sarcastic diatribe thing was way too complicated, and also that I am a ridiculous douche... The point was lost, and also stupid... Rewording it would fix nothing, and no one cares...

I also find it curious that I made an observation without actually ever saying I was for or against the belief in god, and only atheists have had the nuts to put me in my place... Good for you guys... God it feels good to be right... Wait!!! I mean... NOTHING it feels good to be right... Nothing... Yes... Sorry... Please don't punish me with your tiny, simple words, and your angry negative waves...

Give it a rest guys. Belief in god is like pro-life vs. pro-choice or Red Sox vs. Yankees. You have your side and you will never convince the other side to see it your way. All you do is end up in a pissing contest that neither side can win.

It's hard to fight the urge to just type "Well, you know", but I know not to do that because no one would get it... Ignore everything I said, and instead reference this post only... This is this whole thread to me...
OP: an atheist came down on me today...
1/2 of thread: atheists are mean...
Other half: theists are dumb...
Me: Of what I know, atheists are more jerk like than theists...
Rest of thread: you're wrong and also dumb
Me: hypocrites are funny
Rest of thread: That doesn't make sense
Me: I know! I'm so dumb
Rest: Wha, huh???

Do you see what i'm saying now?

I eagerly and excitedly await your very own interpretation! I couldn't be more pleased to hear that not only there is a chance for me to be wrong again, but also that I can finally be corrected! Please for the sake of my boredom actually have something to say about this! Oh please oh please drag out a response past a confused sentence that makes no reference to anything...

Oh and Silver? I understand this looks like some kind of religion debate... But read the thread... It isn't... That stopped a little bit ago... I blame me... But as far as I know no one's mad or trying to change a mind at this point... In fact I assure you nothing well thought out or pertinent to any debate will see this hole again... No ones mad or anything... I just honestly can't stop... Wait... I'll go to bed... The whole thing will die... Watch...

In your format

OP: an atheist came down on me today...
1/2 of thread: "Im christian" "Im Atheist" "Im Wiccan" "Im Agnostic"
Other half: Im cool, just dont preach down my throat
You: Atheists are dicks
Rest of thread: Thats stereotypical
You: You're attacking me
Rest of thread: No, just saying that your last statement was generalizing.
Me: I know! I'm so dumb
Rest: Wha, huh???

4 full pages. I'm surprised this thread has gone this far. Everyone's kept their cool relatively speaking considering the subject matter. I think we've done worse in fewer posts about more meaningless things so lets keep that in mind.

Whos ever been convinced by being insulted anyway? Thats why I say read the New Testament for yourself, then decide for yourself. You're free to believe what you want. I believe I've found something wonderful. I want to share.

Just one beggar telling another where he found bread.

By the way, I'd still have a beer with any of you regardless.

Ok, fantastic guys! Can we all go back to talking about cars again? I think we've all grasped everyones views on this subject, and those who didn't...who cares! Lol.

give it a rest guys. Belief in god is like pro-life vs. Pro-choice or red sox vs. Yankees. You have your side and you will never convince the other side to see it your way. All you do is end up in a pissing contest that neither side can win.

go sox!

very true

quite honestly i avoided this thread at first. why? the stereotypcal car person is "non-religious" ("everyone has a religion, even those who claim to be 'non-religious'. their religion its what they live for/completely devote their lives to"-- my pastor in a sermon) and being a Christian, i never really thought that i would find a thread defending believing in God. i agree with what some other people were saying, i wont shove my beliefs in your face. if you dont agree, ok, if you want to talk about it just ask, im willing to talk about it.

i had a very liberal kid in highschool that me and some friends always debated with. im not much of a debater but i will stand my ground if i have to. half of why he did was to "see what we thought about [insert topic here]"

personally i find it comforting to know that im not alone on here believing in what i do. most other forums ive been on, its nothing to say anything about. if you do, endless threads and hating begin.

ill be the first to admit it, everyone thinks that every Christian is "perfect" and a Bible thumper, but theres no hiding it, we have just as many struggles as everyone else. for me, swearing is one of the bigger things that i stuggle with right now. going into the repair side of the automotive industry only makes it harder for me. one constant ragging that poeple never seem to let down is how im 19 and still a virgin. im sure this will start another whole thing now, but in all honesty i dont understand why its such a big deal. ok so i made a decision for me, i dont press anythign on you as far as what i believe, how you act or what you believe or anything else and thats what you decide to attack? its one of my personal decisions. sure i still want sex but its just a matter of controlling yourself basically. your welcome for controllign the population and spreading of however many stds she has.

[/tangent]

its bothered me for a while

back to topic, another thing my pastor said in a sermon was that more and more scientists are comming to believe in God because there is no possible "natural random happening" to explain creation, because its something that deals with Christianity, thats why nobody hears about it. very atheist people have gone out to try and prove that God doesnt exist, and end up only becoming a believer in God themselves. there is lots of proof that God exists but im sad to say that many people just pass it off as "oh well thats just coincidence".

NOTHING pisses me off more than going to a national park (lets use the badlands in south dakota for example) and hearing the tour guide/park ranger say "over millions [or billions, depending on where you go] of years this land was [sculped/eroded/formed/carved] by [river/water/wind etc] and thats how what you se here today was made." ok so how come when i spit on the hard dry dirt in the badlands, that it changes immedeately? and how come every thing got very noticeably smaller in size over the last 10 years between the 2 times my family took a vacation to there, has changed drastically? weve never posed the question to a tour guide/park ranger person, although i would kinda like to someday

in general, people seem to be more affraid of God than anything else. thats what i think is most likely why people are like "if i ever walked near or into a church id probly burn up" although its a misconception, deep down they know that theyve lived a sinful life and they think that theyve reached a point as to where they cant turn back and repent. EVERYONE is sinful from birth. its a fact of being human. i think that people can be very ignorant and/or just do what others to and say just to "fit in" with main stream american life.

[/rant]

i in no way intended to offend anyone by anything i said, if i did, let me know so we can talk about it, feel free to pm me if you dont want to post it here.
