Sloshing? WTF?

Ever since I picked up this "new" 05 gp I've been hearing this sloshing noise whenever i accelerate. Sometimes when braking. I've checked inside and out for any standing water which I see none. It sounds like it's coming from the area where the DEX reservoir is. Also the temp never goes above 1 tick before half.
I need some help here. It's driving me crazy and I don't want my new car exploding.

You think you have sloshing from the coolant overflow bottle? If you can hear that, do you hear the windshield wash sloshing too?

I know..it sounds a little funny, I'm serious though. If you hear one, you should be able to hear the other. In that case..you got good hearing and the fix is earplugs, or turning the radio on.

^^ Try this first, Bill is right, the firewall would deaden the ability to hear any of the reservoir in the engine bay, if not your hearing is too dam good. Its usually something in the cabin area with you, wouldn't be the fuel tank either as its outside the cabin area.

My mothers car had a leaky heater core which got air in the lines and you could hear it sloshing during any movement of the car, turns, accel, decel, etc... bleed the coolant system, if it doesn't go away then, i dunno

how did ya fix that? how should i check on it?

Ive got a feeling its in the cabin, but i cant find where.. im still gonna check the coolant to make sure its not that. i just dont want there to be something wrong with the coolant and then my engine explodes lol
 
Mine did that. Got a new radiator cap and it pretty much fixed it. Then did the coolant and it totally went away :th_thumbsup-wink:

Replaced the heater core so it wasn't leaking anymore and bled the coolant system so there was no air in it and you can't hear it anymore
 
My '05 has done the same thing. Since its an '05, if it hasn't been replaced, do a coolant flush. Then fill it back up, then bleed the air out through the thermostat housing bleeder screw while the car is running. Make sure to add some to the overflow jug. That took care of mine. Unless you know for sure, that's still could possibly be the factory coolant. Dex-cool has higher maintenance and can cause internal damage if not properly maintained.

yeah, the dealership said they had flushed all fluids, but i highly doubt it.. i think im gonna have to do a flush out myself to be 100% sure.

If they did, they might not have bled it. Just to save yourself some potential time. With engine cold/warm but not hot, loosen the bleeder screw on top of the thermostat housing. With it loose or taken out, start the car and let it get to temp and see if fluid is constantly coming out. No air pockets. And make sure you have some in the overflow jug. If so, then do a flush if you desire.
 


If you have air pockets in your heater core, jack the front of you car up, remove your radiator cap (engine cold), turn on your heat and defroster and let her run. Once the tstat opens you'll have to fill the radiator, the whole time you should see bubbles coming up as the system bleeds itself.
I had this problem and the little bleeder doesn't work that great for getting the air out of the heater core.
Also, if your coolant elbows are bad you'll lose coolant and get air in your system.
The dealer could have bled it but it will keep coming back if the elbows are bad and aren't replaced.
 
sorry for the stupidity, but by coolant elbows do you mean the hoses from the rad? like the rubber is letting air in?
 
No there are 2 plastic elbows in the belt tensioner going into the block by the water pump. The O rings eventually get eaten away.
 
Ok so ive bleed the damn thing 2 times using the bleeder screw, tomorrow i might try that rad cap trick.. but wont it not get the air out since theres no back pressure?
when i step on the gas is when i get the sloshing,

Also i used Rhinolifts instead of jacking seemed to be an easier option at the time.
 


I'll be going through this same process tonight as I did an intake job this weekend. I'll let u know what I find.
 
I've been addin coolant and bleeding it in the morning (cold cold) and the sloshing has been going away slowly but surely. It's harder to get it in one shot since I can only work on it at my moms and that requires driving there lol takes forever to even remotely cool down. Oh well at least it's getting better
