Does the car computer need to be moved to put on a k&n air intake?

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GTP, was wondering if to install the K&N 57-3045, I would need to move the computer. I've heard it was necessary but wasn't sure.

Thanks, Justin.

Do not waste your money on the K&N cold air intake for these cars. They do not do anything to improve your gas mileage or even increase horsepower. The general consensuses is open cone or homemade cold air intake.

Damn you ffdp i really need to hit post before i tab back to chat lol.

I've heard they work well, but maybe not. If i'm feeling crafty, the homemade one would be well worth the money.

I don't think it's so much about cold air but "more air".

Yes they work PERFECT for more air, but your paying 60 for parts and another 150 for the K&N name.

Make your own and it will flow the same as the K&N one and when you buy a filter make sure its a NON oiled filter. Oiled filters are junk and become dirty 10x faster.

K&n says they need cleaned every 100,000 miles, i'm not too worried about it getting dirty.

Also, getting dirty is probably a good sign.

Put a big 9" open cone on there, give me the extra $170 you would have spent on the K&N and you have the same power gains, louder S/C whine, and an air filter that never needs replacing. We both win :)

Buying a K&N FIPK setup on the 3800 Supercharged cars makes just as much sense as taking 2 $100 bills and setting them on fire.

Comprende senor?

its easy to make your own to

filter meet pipe, pipe meet throttle body.

or

filter meet throttle body, throttle body meet the $260 dollars i just saved

Yeah...

like this...

But yours is a little different.

well, alrighty...I'd never thought about doing that and completely removing the "tube"...I guess I never thought that the MAF would be able to attach between the TB and air filter...

Which is why I said yours is different...I have an external MAF sensor as well...you'd have to set it up something like mine.

Blue GTP, how did you mount your air temp sensor? im not seeing it in the picture. im guessing you just routed it to somewhere else?
