l67 l32 block differnces? engine ideas

I snapped a rod on my 99 l67 regal gs last week just pulled it apart last night what I am looking for is engine block differences or if the l67 l32 are the same base block also I have for some odd reason actually came into some money I would like to build a strong motor and car for weekends at the track and scaring people on the streets. I'm interested in any possible info for engine building tips, ideas for forced induction, pistons, rods, head work, machining possibilities etc.

I hear ya but if I sent a pic of the rod crank and piston I pulled out u might understand my concern especially when I was on decel with zero on my tps and no knock retard or light to be honest I can't figure out why it snapped a rod but my block is just a big paper weight now so I'm looking in all areas for a better overall engine starting at the bottom first

blowing up pistons and snaping rods are all part of the game.

maybe if you told us what mods you had and your way of scanning we could understand better.

i have headers an msd dis 4 with adapters and coils, 3.4 pully, cai, rebuilt sc, u bend delete, custom cat back, 1.8 rockers and zzp tune, ported lower intake not sc. and thats it and i understand that its part of the game but still ya know i figured that it would have went when i was at 5 grand spinning tires. im a technician i had my modis hooked up the day that it happend. im just unsure what caused it i think that is the thing that upsets me

Sometimes they break just after beating on them, a day after beating it, could have developed a stress crack and finally went.

I would do a L32 build if you have extra cash, the l67's are hard to find as it is. Just leave the bottom end a lone and find a good tuner. Put a s2 full size genv blower intercooler on, then decide on cam or rockers. You will need a built transmission eventually.

There's been cars with 200,000+ miles on stock bottom ends run 11.2sec, stock bottom ends making 600+whp, it's not uncommon for stock bottom ends to perform well, it is fairly common to see modified bottom ends get destroyed.

and as i have now read the hate mail to zzp and some opinions it make me wonder if i had a bad tune or something idk what to think

well you had all that air coming in and probably not enough flow mods to get it out...example: Intake, Rockers, Smaller Pulley...and only a U-Bend Deleted?

Probably hated you...lol

I also said i had headers and a custom cat back 2.5 all the way no resonator and had a cherry bomb muffler ???? not enough outlet how could i do anymore besides a cut out or a 3 in down pipe

What kind of zzp tune was it? The 1.0 tune is really only meant for a 3" dp, cai, tstat, 3.4" pulley, etc. With 0 restricition in the exhaust the way it sounds, the 1.8 rockers, the ported lim... it all adds up when trying to get a good fuel curve for the amount of air you are moving.

You may have had too much, meaning the car might have been lean, high heat, + a few degrees of timing from stock, broken rod. Hard to say without seeing a scan or log.

well, if you're interested, i have an L67 block that's been cleaned at a machine shop, a reground crank, and 6 piston/rod assemblies that I was planning on using for a build but i think i'm going in a different direction. i also have rod and main bearings and a timing set. basically you're missing rod and main bolts and then you'd have the bottom end back together. pm me if it sounds good

146000 miles and it was the zzp 1.0 tune my af ratio gauge was rich when it happened and 0 boost

Wideband or narrowband?

It may have developed a stress crack sometime earlier and finally went, i've seen that before.

The 1.0 pcm is really only tailored to those certain mods, i would get a custom tune or a mail order tune since you have the ability to scan.
