Daytime running lights

Has anyone had experience with eliminating their daylight headlight (DRL) function? If so, how did you do it, i.e. wiring change/relay installation.

i know ppl have done it but i dont know how i would like to..ive heard that you just disconnect the drl module but theres two connectors on there and im not sure whitch one to unplug?

On the drivers side dash there is a panel that you can remove. Inside you will see a connector going to a heatsink. Pull that connector off. That disables the DRL's on 97-03's.

Where abouts is the panel, underneath or up top?

is that going to the module?

Yes.

On the side of the dash when you open the door.

This is the heatsink that you should see.

Searching "disable driving lights" or just "drls" gives so many threads like this it isnt funny... one of them has pictures but i cant find it and after a minute i spent too much time :th_shakinghead1:

^^^ is the main thread for this

Its simple, 97-03 has 2 options

#1 look on the drivers side at the fuse box, there is a fuse for them, drls or fog lights or something to that effect (my 99 is like that currently, you just have to use the actual switch, they don't come on at night any more)

#2 is unplug the main module. twilight still works, so the headlights come on at night, open driver door, where the door meets the dash on the side is a plastic panel, give a tug, you should then see the heatsink, just unplug it and voila :th_winking:

Excellent! The more info the better. Thanks TLSeff..

ok i got it done and now i have my highs with my fogs..but that stupid little connector was the hardest little sob ive ever tried to unplug, in the 02's the switch isnt stright up or to the side its at a angle and its so tight theres no room to work in
but i did it and now im happy and now i can order my hids

newer cars dont like the DRL fuse being pulled.

they make an awful noise till you put the fuse back in.

You are right. I believe this is true for 00-03's. It's best to just unplug the DRL diode in the drivers side compartment. As stated, unplugging the connector will still keep the auto headlight feature. If you want to disable the auto headlight feature then do what is written in this link.

Headlamp Control

I have a 2003 GTP and confirmed pulling the DRL fuse is not the way to go. I heard a relay chattering on the driver side of my dash. However, unplugging the DRL diod did the trick to eliminate my day time lights. The auto twilight function works as it did before.

I considered pursuing full manual function but not sure if I want to delve that deep.

quick question! I have an 02 and i have aftermarket housings for it and before i get hids for it i need to disable the drls! I want my halos and parking lights to come on just not my low beams! If you guys have some awsners please help! :D
