Re: help after cam install :(

That was a semi reassembled picture. Idler went on after the cover. However if you pull just the pulley and look at where the 4th WP bolt is..you can use a grinder to made an access rounded area so that you don't have to pul the entire idler standoff piece. makes it easier/harder depending on what your doing. I'd sugget you pull the pulley and stand off.

Re: help after cam install :(

well me and mu friend tore it apart tonight and with the dampner on i can wiggle the cain back and forth about 3/8th of a inch and to me thats a little loose... and we also found that on the crank gear the teeth on the outer edges are rough like they were being ground up... here is a pic u can kinda tell..

Re: help after cam install :(

Where did that cam gear come from?

All we can see in that picture is the insane amount of flash from your camera. Try a droplight and turning the flash off.

Meanwhile if you say that the crank gear appears worn... how does it look when you turn the motor? Any binding, noise or anything like that? Put the dampener back on and see what happenes. There has to be some chain movement w/o one. Why you took it off...I DUNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Re: help after cam install :(

for a moment I wondered if the cam gear was on backwards, but I confirmed it was installed properly.

Re: help after cam install :(

Also...turn that a few times and inspect both gears. I've heard of the crank gear cracking in some cases.

Re: help after cam install :(

where did u gett hat different looking crank gear bill^^? and also with turning the engine over with a rathet on the crank should it usually be really stiff liekt he cam and the crank in there? or should it be able to move just a tiny bit? bcuz mien is pretty stiff in there. and bill u can see the wear on the top gear in my pic. I toke the dampner off bcuz i need a new timing set anyways lol

Re: help after cam install :(

Wow.. I'm having trouble with restraint at the moment.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5...awwww f'it.

Bryant the top gear is the cam gear. You said crank gear aka the big flash of light at the bottom of your picture. It's tough to see crank gear wear while looking at the cam gear. The edges of the gears are bevelled to help the chain not wear. Again..like your sound, I see nothing out of place on the gear. Take measurements of the chain from the block at both cam and crank gears. Your measurements should be pretty close.

Want to know why your engine is tough to turn over????? Because the plugs are in and you are compressing the cylinders. Pull the plugs and you can turn it easily. The only thing giving any back pressure with the plugs out will be the springs.

You do work on cars for a living right?

Re: help after cam install :(

no bill im talkin about how come your cam gear looks different then mine? is it a better one or is it just a different brand?

Re: help after cam install :(

and i know its ****ing hard to turn bcuz the plugs r in ya dipshyt. Im saying it seems harder than it shoulkd be even witht he plugs in. And what i was saying is the teeth on the cam gear are rough and seem liket hey have slightly been grinding thats why they r rough to the touch not smooth
