Adding HUD and a DIC to your 97-03 GP

Both will work but the GTP one will keep the traction control light on at all times. There is a fix for it I think earlier in this thread.
 


Make sure you get a DIC from a 97 only. The 97 is all by itself unfortunately. Also if you don't have the harness inside your dash, ( should be pretty close to the other harness for the analog or AIC one) You'll need to get a DIC with the harness. Then its just a matter of matching all the correct wires by looking at the color code and by following the wire chart thats been made specifically for doing this mod. I should also note that 97 is the only year that has the check tire pressure light as well.
 
Just finished installing the digital DIC and HUD in my 02 gt. never would have considered it without this writeup. Everything worked great first try. only a couple issues:

hud is always on km/h when i start the vehicle. Switches to mph after a little bit.

Put the radio back, backlight stopped working. pulled it out and put it back, backlight works. had to pull it out and put it in for something, backlight stopped working :/

I'll look into it a little more tomorrow. other than this the whole install was flawless. I can see the HUD perfectly on the 'regular' windshield.
 
you could have a loose wire if you had to move things around or the bulbs are just being ghey... Awesome though. Much nicer having that in there eh?
 
i have a 98 GT and i am wondering if i can use the HUD out of a 98 bonne SSEI? are they the same as far as the HUD and wiring? will the dash pod cover it the same or would i have to add a lil fibre glass to make it smooth and contour without using the long length that goes across to the passenger side?

You need to get the 24 pin connector for the digital DIC so you can splice the wires from the 16 pin connector.

Use the wiring guide posted on the first page. That is all you need to get it working. There may be unused wires. It's been awhile since I did this.
 


and if i get one out of a gtp the traction control will say its off but its really on and when it shows its off its on?
 
You will need to look at the color codes of the wire harness coming out from your dash for the analog DIC. You will need to splice into the same color coded wires coming from your analog DIC harness to install the plug you need to operate the Digital DIC. Here is the list of wires that you will be using. Follow these and you should have no problem I should note these also tell you the PIN location and what each wire does. Also note that there are two purple with white stripe wires on the new harness for the digital dic. Please verify the correct PIN number on them, B-10 is your fuel level input for 97 only) A6 is your trac off wire.
( Here's an example,..... You will need to locate the Light blue wire with the black stripe on your old analog harness, once you locate that wire.....Look for the exact same wire on the new harness for the digital dic. Splice these two wires together, then wrap them in a small piece of electrical tape.) (Repeat the above example for every wire that is listed)

pink ignition pwr (i used this wire on both the brown and pink wire on the digital dic for ignition pwr)
red/with black stripe (trunk ajar) (same as digital)
light blue/ with black stripe (door indicator) (same as digital)
black/with white stripe (door indicator) (same as digital)
gray/with black stripe (door indicator) (same as digital)
light green/ with black stripe (door indicator) (same as digital)
both black wires are grounds doesn't matter which one goes to the digital black just hook them both up
light blue (same as digital)
light green (same as digital)
purple/ with white stripe (same as digital)
brown/with white stripe(same as digital)
dark blue/ with white stripe( same as digital)
black/with white stripe (same as digital)

On the two solid gray wires...(use a test light and clip the ground wire from the test light to a good ground, then touch tip of the test light the to a gray wire) Turn on your lights and adjust the dimmer..... if your test light fades, then that is the power dimmer. If it does not fade then the wire is for the change oil indicator and the other gray wire is the light dimmer. You can then hook them up accordingly.
 


Now for the orange constant battery power or memory...there was a plug that had wires taped with the harness under the dash with an orange wire that had constant battery power or (memory). I just spliced into it for the orange wire.
If you can't locate the little plug with the wires you could use the constant power from the cigarette lighter or create your own by tapping into the constant power for the radio memory or running a wire to the fuse box.


For the tan wire on your digital dic harness.... you need cut a nice length of wire (I used like 2 feet ,don't worry you can always shorten it)to splice into the tan wire that is on the diagnostic plug( OB2 Port) Run the wire up behind the dash and to the harness . I did not cut the wire but used a splice connector for the end on the OB2 port and simply crimped the wire on the digital dic harness end.

The dark green wire for the vss (vehicle speed sensor) you need to splice into the dark green wire on the back of the speedo. There are a few of them. The wire is the second in next to a grayish brown wire.

(Note this is for 97 only: ) What I did for my (vss wire)I cut off one of the old pins from the old connector/plug from the analog dic( make sure you leave plenty of wire to splice into. I used about a foot or so of green wire I picked up at the store and crimped one end to the PIN), you'll simply slide it (the pin you just crimped the wire to) back into place on your instrument cluster connector in location C1-F. Then run the wire through your dash over to the digital dic harness. Crimp the end of the wire you just ran from your instrument cluster to the (purple with white stripe wire) marked B-10 on the connector/plug from your digital dic harness.

I didn't use the gray/black vf park wire at all.

Once you've got all your connections made and everything is plugged back in.....Turn your key on, your DIC should light up , start your car and you can test everything out by opening your doors to see if the door indicators blink and the chime makes noise. Same with your trunk , pop it open you'll see the icon for the trunk flash and hear the chime.

You can then (page) through your DIC info by pressing the mode button. You should see a percentage of your oil (example 100 percent) means the oil has just been changed) For my car in particular it was 65 percent which means the oil was through 35 percent of its life. Don't worry though, your oil percentage will read different than everyone Else's

You can also view your average MPG , Range (approximate mileage til you need to put fuel in),Fuel used (example 2.4 Gallons)

The dic will also flash a washer fluid icon over the engine area outline of the car when its low.

Low fuel warning also happens. If you have 60 miles or less to go on a tank of gas the DIC will flash LOW and the chime will start chiming

I hope this helps you guys out some.
 
ok so if im not going to add a HUD do i have to worry about B7 light blue wire to HUD for the english/metric switch? is that just so the read out on the windshield would change?
