• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Motor Replacement

im not sure about the flexplate butthe l36 one should fit also the ubend is the part of the downpipe where iy goes from round pipe to like a flatened oveal where the 02 sensor mounts that part is very restrictive and should be replaced with a staight section of pipe the part u were thinking of is the crossover

Ok, now I know what part you are talking about, don't know if I will worry about that cause my main concern is getting the car running so she will have a car to drive.

I read in one thread that the rear exhaust manifold will need swapped from the L36 to the L26 for the exhaust to bolt up correctly but I only seen it in one thread, is that also correct?

And if someone could confirm about the L26 bolting to the transmission that came with the L36 that would be great.

I just want to have everything figured out before I go buy an L26 and then all of a sudden there's a major obstacle that I was unaware of, so far it seems like some things need switched over which isn't bad the thing that has me really worried is bolting to the transmission.

i am 110% sure the transmission bolts up i am not sure about the rear manifols but your l36 one will fit so no problem there

When you say the L36 one will fit I'm not sure what you mean?

The L36 exhaust will bolt to the L26 Manifold or the rear L36 manifold will bolt to the L26 head and crossover?

And thank you for the info on the transmission.

I'm assuming it will also match up to the crossover then?

edit: and where should I check for a used TB adapter? I don't think they would be a common eBay thing?

Ok so I started thinking, If I'm using a 2005 motor with a 2000 Alternator, what serpentine belt do I use, a series II or series III?

And the L26 normally has an electronic throttle control but the L36 has a cable controlled throttle. When I drop the L26 into the 00 GP and use the adapter to use the L36 TB will it just act like a normal cable controlled L36?

Use the same belt you've used before.
Yes on the cable control. Do a search about retaining PCV though. There's something that needs to be modified IIRC.

I tried searching but its not letting me search PCV its too short, I even put " around it to make it search and no results were coming back. It seems like the longer this thread goes the more stuff that comes up that needs to be done that complicates it. Its starting to seem like its more trouble then its worth but the L26 is such a better engine it seems like.

It's not too much trouble. I think you just need to connect the pcv in front of the throttle plate. I'm not 100% though...hang in a min and someone who's done it should pop in.

I seen at clubgp a post about having to tap the TB adapter and seal something else off and haven't seen anything here about it. Does anybody have a true DIY/How-To on swapping an L26 into an L36 car?

Thanks for the link nascartech

I seen something on clubgp about having to change the coolant temp sensor as well. There seems to be more and more and nobody seems to have a true DIY for it.

Anybody done this? Know where there is a DIY?

I registered on clubgp about a week ago and my account still hasn't been approved.

This is my new favorite thread. I mostly lurk on this site, having never had to ask a question (my answer is always already out there somewhere) but this thread is EXACTLY the information I'm looking for. Just dropping in to say thank you to all of you who make this community great.
