the small exhaust leak you get from the leaky flex with a stock catback sounds pretty good IMO.

Its louder than my 3.8 pulley at times.

I'd like to just get rid of mah damn flex...it actually all exit out the back for once LOL.

You know what I don't understand.

Why does the 3.8 sound different then a 60 deg v6? I realize its 90 degree but I thought the offset crank journals compensated for this? With the modified crank shouldn't it sound the same as any other 60 deg v6?

The buick 3.8 and chevy 4.3 both have pretty much the same damn sound, and I guess its to be expected since they are the same animal (90 deg v6 with modded crank).

We have a Honda j-35 V6 in the wifes 06 Saturn Vue and there is no doubt it sounds 10X better then the 3.8. In fact at 5-6K it sounds down right mean.

Sounds angry all the time due to the lack of VTEC.


The 3800 and 4300 were both based on v8's.

If GM designed a proper V6, like the 60* chev, then it'd sound good.

I kind of got that. But this doesn't answer my question.
If the 3.8 and 4.3 both have modified cranks shouldn't they perform and sound like a 60 deg v6?

What is the cause of the crap sound?

firing order of the 3800 is 6-1-2-3-4-5.

Pistons go:

2-4-6
1-3-5

60* is 1-2-3-4-5-6.

Pistons go:

1-3-5
2-4-6

4300 is 1-6-5-4-3-2.

Pistons go:

1-3-5
2-4-6

J32 is

firewall
123
456
grille/radiator

firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6

Get it yet?

So buick V6 went from:

153624 to 123456 when it became even fire, not odd fire, and after mid 80's it went to 165432.
