Just ran at the track. Tell me if I did awesome or awful lol

So I ran at the track here in orlando. First time taking the car to the track. On my best run I ran 14.680 at 93.30 mph. This was on a .491 reaction time and a 2.160 sixty foot time. The car is a '99 4door GTP and the mods I have are a ZZP 3" downpipe with cat, and a drop in K&N filter. I really dont know a lot about 60 foot times and wanted to know if a 2.1 is somethin to be happy about or like "Holy crap I need to work on this" lol. I left all my stuff in the car cause I wanted to see what it ran when its the way I usually have it. So the sub box, jack and stands, even backpack for school got left in it. Had about a half tank of gas when I ran. Any input would be appreciated.

Not bad for near stock. You can cut the 60' down a bit still on street tires if ur trans is still up to the task. I ran a 2.065 sixty on bald mismatched tires.

Might try tossing a gallon of race gas in it next time you go...that trap speed is awfully low for a stock pullied car that doesn't have factory exhaust. I was trapping 14.5-14.7 @ 96-97-ish with a FWI and just a U-Bend Delete and totally pointless 3" exhaust past that. It might be knockin'...so...I'd test that out for the next trip...that and yank everything out of it. Other than that...good run.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if it was knocking hard. Ive never had it scanned and certainly not tuned. Is it worth spending the cash for a good dyno tune on a near stock set up?

My point was...on a stock pulley with a downpipe...it shouldn't really be knocking at all...are you using 91+ octane in it? The pulley size is stock?

Oh sorry I misread that. I just assumed my car would be knocking because of all the other gremlins under the hood. (weird electrical stuff) Yeah All the gas stations near me carry 93 octane so thats the only fuel i put in it. I had the TCS off and "Performance Shift" engaged. I had it in drive and it shifted into 4th right before the finish. Should I leave it in 3 instead of D to eliminate that last shift?

It would shift anyway. That control only keeps it under that gear unless it knows it needs to shift to keep from blowing up. Ex: I put mine in 1 and it still shift all the way up to 3 or 4

That's a newer GM thing...97-03 cars will only shift out of 1st...every other gear you can hold.

As for shifting to 4th at the traps...something is up...because 93mph on the stock 2.93's is still in 2nd or barely in 3rd. Something is up transmission wise there...try leaving it in 2nd...and then put it in 3 when it gets close to redline.

I have heard that they shift anyway and I understand that. I was asking more if it would shift AFTER the finish rather than before. And if it does stay in 3rd till after the stripe would that be quicker than hitting 4th before crossing it.

my 07 gp gt with only a open cone filter ran a 15.1 so your time is not bad at all. as for the shifting thing i found out in mine if i leave it in drive and when it shifts into second put the shifter down into second it holds it all the way out the end of the track, it wont ever shift till i put the shifter into drive

I'd say your time looks pretty good overall. Reaction time doesn't effect your 1/4 mile time at all, but your 60' does. A 2.16 60' is just about right for your car considering you're running normal tires. IIRC, for ever .1 second on your 60' your 1/4 mile time should improve by .2 seconds. Trap speed is low though and that sounds like it's because of your shifting issue.

It's been years since I've had my tranny shift at stock points on 3.29's, but I would think that even with 2.93's (your gear ratio) you would be shifting from 1st to 2nd around 40-45mph, and from 2nd to 3rd at about 85-90mph. The tranny should stay in 3rd until around 125-130ish before it would shift into 4th, so there is an issue there.

Whenever you go to the drag strip with your 99 GTP, put it into Drive and let the car do the shifting. It will go through the gears, but it will NOT go into 4th in Drive. You have to have the shifter in Overdrive in order for the tranny to shift into 4th gear. If you put it into 1st, the tranny will shift into 2nd. If you put it into 2nd, the tranny will go from 1st to 2nd, but it will not go into 3rd.

Hope that clears up a few things for you.

I am willing to bet he just mixed up 3rd and 4th... There is really no way to get into 4th at the track with stock horsepower, unless you pedal it hard.

Trap speed seems really low, as I think I could trap about 98 stock.

I ran a best of 15.2 last summer, weather wasnt right for it and everyone seemed to be running .2-.3 slower than avg so i figure a 15 flat or sub on a perfect day, but thats completely stock 99 gtp with all my crap like I normally drive it and reg street tires, think I had a 2.2 60' and around a .500 reaction time... have the slip at home, at work right now

good run tho, need to get into 2nd and shift to 3rd or leave in 3rd and get some stickier tires and you'd pull lower im sure :th_thumbsup-wink:

Meh...it's all about rooting the guy in front of you...I had stock Bridgestone RE Potenza's 225/60/16's...I pulled numerous 1.9x's...just gotta know wut your doin...also...reaction time has nothing to do with your 1/4 time...it doesn't start counting until you leave the line.

Man this is a ton of good info. Thanks yall I do appreciate it, tons. As for what gear it was shifting into you are correct in that I only assumed it was going from 3rd to 4th, I wasnt actually counting lol. But the shift did happen maybe a second before the line. Which makes sense if I trapped 93mph and it doesnt shift till 85-90. Im assuming then that I should just leave the baby in drive since trying to hold it in second sounds like bad policy lol. I dont know why the MPH would be low however. It was very consistent all night. I had 3 runs and they were like 93.1, 92.9 and 93.3 mph. The tires Im running are Falken Ziex ZE512, size 225-60-16 and the wheels are some light little Rota Circuit 10s. If any of that matters.
