Need some help with 2008 with 3800

Hi,

This is my first post. I have not worked on a Pontiac for years. The newest one I workd on did not even come with cats from the factory. For the most part I have only worked on GM V8's and strait 6's from the 50's. This 3800 is tossing me for a little fun.

This is my fiance's car and this is the first time I am working one it. I am trying to do a oil change, air filter, and pcv change. So far the air filter has been the only thing I have been able to do.

I thought I needed a 15mm to change the oil plug. Found out I needed a 13mm. That the dealer got the plug so tight that I can not get it undone right now. What is worse you can not get up there with a ratchet. I need to get my wrench set that I did not take to her place. I have no idea what they were thinking where they put the oil filter. I though it was bad on my Dad's K3500 with a 454.

I have searched under the hood for a good 20min and I can not find the pcv valve. I am searched I keep on finding informion for the series 2 motor. I can not find information for the series 3.

Can anyone help me in locating the PCV valve?

If its N/A look on the right side of upper intake manifold, you will see the MAP sensor (black plastic) with a electrical plug. unplug wires and twist entire assembly counter clockwise to remove. Once it is out you will have an o ring and a spring, pull both out and right there is pcv valve. It sounds more difficult than it reall is.3800 Series II PCV Valve help? - GM Inside News Forum

For the oil filter turn the wheels full lock to the passengers side. (with the wheels in the air)

The filter will be much easier to get out when its like that.
 
Thanks for moving. I was not sure where to post this. Each forum is a little different. I am a Subaru guy right now with my 08 WRX. I use their forums a lot.
 


You can also put two wrenches together for added leverage.

Thanks. I know the two wrench quick all to well. Use that a lot when doing down pipes on subaru's. Thanks for the heads on on the gasket for the plug.
