Hey everyone,

My name is William, and 1st thing in the morning I take delivery of my 06 GP GXP. Im excited, have always liked these cars and finally I get to have one. I have trolled this forum for a couple weeks trying to find out as much about this car as possible, as far as reliability goes. I'm a motring enthusiast at heart so I already have a decent amount of knowledge of the specs of the car already. I just needed some subject matter experts. Hence the reason for registering here. A little about myself. I am a 15 yr vet of the US army and I am currently working as an Unarmed Self Defense/ Controlled Force instructor for the Military Police school at Ft Leonard Wood, Mo. For those of you unfamiliar i am about 2 hrs west of St Louis and an hr east of springfield mo. Born in Daytona bch Fl, raised in orlando Fl. I am married with 4 daughters, 3 dogs, 2 motorcycles, 3 cars, 2 deployments to the middle east, and as you can imagine alot of grey hairs coming in. each one has a daughter or my wifes name on it. lol. I race a 2007 Honda CBR 600 RR in the Mid west series of CCS. Spent alot of hours at Gateway International raceway, and Daytona International raceway. I have a certification for Honda and Kawasaki from the Motorcycle mechanics instituted. So if anyone needs something dealing with bikes i can probably answer it or get you to the right answer.

and here she is

picked up my baby this morning and im in love. handles great, stops great, and accelerates awesome. the nicest, most luxurious, and second fastest car ive even owned. just starting to get some things figured out. key fob only unlocks doors, and opens trunk for some reason. lock button does nothing and remote start button only makes the lights flash. otherwise im ecstatic. theres alot of road salt out right now so when i get her cleaned back up ill post more pics. already went to lowes and got the piping for my short ram intake. havent quite decided on how im going to do the exhaust. i wonder what it would sound like and perform like if i completely ditched the mufflers and stuck with the rest of the exhaust being stock. i have to be budget minded. thanks for the comments guys.

you've been in the military, race bikes, and post picture of you with 12 gauges, and you say the grey hair is because of your wife and daughters? you're crazy sir lol

welcome to the forums

Welcome and again thank you for your service.
Your fob will not start the car because the lock function will not work. I would urge the dealership to replace or fix the fob and give you an extra one, normally that service costs $119.00 (have them do it free of charge to you and if that does look like it is going well see if your vehicle was sold as GM Certified and have it covered that way).
Oh and I respectfully say this but wouldn't it be nicer if your wife was on the bike.

Welcome! You do like adrenaline pumping through your veins i see :) Very nice bike! Enjoy your grand prix.

im planning on getting a bike in the future so if i need help ill let you know!

WOW talk about a busy man and 4 daughters. I have one and I want to chew threw my own neck lov the he** outta her tho. ANyway WELCOME. Man you got me rethinking my hobbies

I had a similar issue on my 06, it was the receiver inside the car that needed to be replaced. At least open up your fob and make sure the battery connections are good.

lol thanks man, she actually has her own 08 cbr 600 rr that im teaching her to ride. ill see what i can do.

when i picked up the car this morning the fib didnt even have a battery in it. the key fob opened the trunk and locked the doors just wouldnt lock or start. if i push on the lock button with a pointy object it locks and then i can start it. i made them put one in. the problem is that it was a hyundai dealer and the guy knew nothing about the car. i did an rpo code lookup on my car and it didnt show remote start and i remember our police package cars having remote start fobs without remote start so i was thinking it was the same thing. i will be calling them tomorrow concidering i drove 3 hrs one way to get the car. oh and i did some snooping under the hood when i got home and the damn coolant reservior was effing bone dry. i was a little pissed.

Re: Newbie (update)

called the dealer and it turns out those cock suckers have an extra key and fob for the car. they are shipping it to me as we speak

Yeah, remote start was standard on GXP and GT models for 2006. Coolant reservoir bone dry, huh....when I got my '06 home, I checked everything and found that my power steering reservoir was over full. I guessed that maybe they test drove it themselves and heard the whine from the supercharger and thought p/s fluid was low. The second fob will be nice.
