The VS cam should be close to the same as doing rockers. So $555 for everything to put the cam in. $205 for headers, $100 for plugs/fluids/dremel/air grinder bits. $50 for the pulley Port the blower/intake/throttle body (not sure on the intake tbh). Then go and get a tune. So i'm looking at $910. Intercooler can be added at a later date if I want to go further. Put in a few of the other things that come up and I should be able to stay close to my $1000 goal (preferably) Seem like a good plan?
I think you misunderstood me. With the price being close to similar I might as well do a cam. Think I've talked myself into doing either the VS or SX1 cam. I'd imagine that the cam also has a lower dynamic compression ratio allowing a person to run more boost than a stock/rocker cam.
You can compare the VS to 1.95 Roller Rockers...
OR...
and XP to an S1X
Or the IS3 to an XPZ
But that's about it.
Well then that start a new course of discussion. Seems like the S1X and VS cams are both geared more towards stock heads. Looks like the S1X (+$25) needs the 105# springs (+$50) and a better timing chain (+$80). Costs are over a VS cam. So is it highly recommended to pony up the $155 more? Also this is for a daily driver so that is something else to take into account. More thoughts and opinions?
you dont need a better timing set if you're running 105's.
stock setup is fine.
What are the supporting mods for a cam? Are headers necessary? Thanks
nothing good lol. blue will say something about his 1.8 60' times on the stock tranny, and he's right. if you're nice to it and don't romp on it around every corner it'll stay in one piece. i've read that you can help it with a tune, program for 4-2 skip shifts and bump up line pressure to make shifts quicker and keep stress off your clutches. DD friendly? eh...
Cams provide a lot of top end power over a stock gtp. Without headers, you won't be taking full advantage of the power up top.
