Traction Control Won't Shut Off

I picked up an '06 GT about 2 months ago, and with all of the snow since then, there is something that I've noticed. When my traction control kicks in, I can't seem to shut it off. I can press the TC button all I want, and it never shuts off.

For general driving, this is OK as it helps to keep things under control, however, there are times when I want to get up and moving so to speak, and if there is the tiniest bit of moisture or snow under the tires, even if it is just a small patch of it, traction control kicks in and I sit there puttering along until I get enough speed going that it shuts itself off and then the RPMs finally get up there, boost kicks in, and off I go.

Personally, I am good with traction control off ALL off the time. I have so much experience driving in snow/ice that I know when to apply power and when not to that I don't need the car trying to control it.

So what could be wrong? Why can't I turn it off?

are you letting out of the throttle copletely when it kicks on? usually it stays lit up and keeps cutting fuel or whatever it does until your foot is completely out of it

If I let off the gas, it shuts off, but if I keep the pedal down, it stays on and limits fuel/rpms and prevents wheel spin (like it is supposed to)...

I just want to be able to push the button and disable it like on my 2000 GTP that I used to have.

Yeah, I will have to try that... I think that I've tried holding the button, but maybe just a full second or two. I will try a little longer.

Thanks!

Hmm... I tried to just hold down the TC button and nothing happened after about 10 seconds. Then I waiting until I got to a spot with a lot of packed down snow/ice, hit the gas to trigger the Traction Control, and pressed the TC button. I held it down for at least 4 seconds and it never shut off...

You shouldn't have to hold it -- at least I don't have to. As soon as you turn the car on press the button. A message should come up saying Traction Control Off and the traction control light should light up on the dash.

ok mine does the same thing I thought to hold it down and started pressing the button violently frustrated. then it all of a sudden turned off. (Im the same way id rather be in control in snow). I realized that if you press it down and give it a wiggle it shut off. I think the button isnt aligned right. give that a try press it down and wiggle around

hold the brakes when you do it, I a couple times in the past couple days and i think the brakes need to be pressed. reverse donuts ftw!

OK. So I pressed and wiggled the button a few times, and it turned off. Wiggled a little more and it turned back on. Now it works every time. I am thinking that there must have been some junk in the button that I managed to wiggle loose.

thats funny. told ya worked for me:th_winking:

I've never had abs or tcs, one of my sensors are broken. Makes it easy that way, and survived a winter in Alaska without any problems, on all season tires.

GM has abuse maagement built into the pcm and ecm that will over ride that button. Try doin a burn out on dry pavement, it may let the tires turn over a few times but thats it. I knew of guys that would try to override it by unpluggin their abs module not allowing the computer to read tire speed but it's only a temp fix, plus your DIC goes nuts and it can throw your car into limp-home mode. A tune was the only way I could get the GXP to release its grip on the world. JME

I believe it is something with these buttons and the circut because about 90% of the 04+ GP Owners i have come in contact with have this issue...mine works sometimes and others it doesnt. i have to press it a trillion times to get it off.
