What is the cheapest radio wiring harness - 2006 GT no Monsoon & no On-Star

I am looking to get rid of the very base level radio in my 2006 GT.

I've seen so many wiring harnesses out there, but they seem to be more for people with On-Star or the Monsoon system. I have neither.

I picked up a Scosche GM2000 at Walmart for $40 but haven't opened it up because it doesn't like Grand Prixs as being a working vehicle. The connection "looks" right, and it is supposed to retain the RAP and chimes from what I can tell.

Will this work, or is there a better low-cost alternative.

Also, what do I do with the black plug from the factory radio (was told it goes to the DIC)? Just leave it unplugged?

This is the one I used in my 2004. It's probably the cheapest one, but you will lose the chimes and the date on the DIC. For that harness you will need to find a switched 12v to tap into. I used a fuse tap and some 14 guage wire to tap into the sunroof fuse. If you use the sunroof fuse, you can retain the RAP for the radio. And you just leave the black plug unplugged. Just tuck it behind the radio somewhere.

Wow. That is the cheapest... What if I wanted to keep the chimes and RAP?

I don't have a sunroof, so not sure if there would be a tie-in there for the RAP.

I am pretty sure that you lose the calendar date on the DIC with all aftermarket setups, so no big deal there. That is why they made the "Boost" screen anyway. :th_winking:

i wouldnt get this one. like i said i got the scosche one and i works great. keep an eye on ebay and youll get one for cheap.

OK. So no solid answer about the Scosche GM2000 that I picked up for $40 at Wallymart...

Now, I need to decide between the Metra Axxess GMRC-02 and the PAC C2R-GM24 to figure out which is better. I've got the Axxess steering wheel control which worked great in my 2000 GTP and is supposed to work with the 2006, but I don't think that it will care one way or another about which wiring harness I use.

Decisions, decisions...

I was given a JVC KD R810 for xmas this year, guy at Future Shop messed up the install price to my wife so when we complained they gave up the dash kit, antenna and a PAC C2R-GM24 for $100.

Install is an extra $70 so I'm trying to get it done this week so I can cancel and get a refund on that. The reg price on a PAC is about $120. I saw it on different website for under $60 though FShop uses Bestkits.com, I wanted to keep the date on my DIC. I found this site while searching for hook up advice

I have the same type of setup in my car, no monsoon, no on star. What is the RAP system you're talking about?

I'm wanting to change out my stock deck to something nicer but the harness is the only thing holding me back because of the price.

I don't think I'll miss the chimes if there's a harness I can use that's much cheaper.
