What is your Worst Injury

what is the worst injury you have ever had working on your car?

i set my record last night, i was putting in my headers and as i was unbolting the downpipe my hand slipped and was sliced on something on the block. i had to go to the ER and get stiches but while they were putting them in, they found out that i had cut into the tendon. now have to go see a hand doctor to find out what will happen

^^ THAT SUCKS!

nothing terrible working on a car, but i have a stupid story about a stupid friend, who thought u dont have to put jack stands under a car. well, the jack failed and he has two gashes on his thighs from the rotos. he should be happy someone was arround.

This past summer I was pulling the pilot bearing out of my old cobra, the puller/slidehammer slipped off and I about knocked myself out and got a fat/cut lip.

I lost about 1/2" of my left middle finger to an Izuzu Trooper... Was working at a salvage yard... needed the trans out of it. Needless to say I had the trans unbolted, thought it was the exhaust holding it from seperating, while in a man fury becuase it wouldn't seperate, I grabbed the tailshaft and yanked. The trans and engine snapped back together faster then you could blink your eye ( this isn't an understatement )... And when it went back together my finger was in the way. Off to the horsepital, a shot of morphine ( exposed nerves and bone ) and surgury.. I am now a tad shorter on that finger... But honeslty it's not by much and from far away you can't tell... but I got lucky I didn't loose all of them.

Oh and btw, there was a very small bracket ( two 10mm bolts ) located on the very bottom of the assembly that prevented it from seperating.

It was during summer and was changing my brake pads. so jacked the car up and started un bolting the nuts and i tripped on something...twisted my ankle sat home for a week not being able to walk. since then i never wore flip flops when working on my car... exept when im washing it

nothing terrible, but when i was cuttin up my truck i had a cutoff wheel explode and bits of it were stuck in my forehead :th_laugh-lol3: but that didn't stop me, i put another wheel on and started cutting again, well it got snagged and pulled out of my hands (i was upside down underneath the truck) hit my arm and put some nice burns/cuts in it.. luckily my shirt got wrapped up in it and stopped the motor

it left some pretty gnarly scars on my arm

For me nothing above the usual cuts, bruises, and burns. Many scars on my hands to show for those.

For close calls I did almost have a top of a shock go through my skull when I was swapping the springs out on my Camaro. The spring slipped out and shot the shock almost into my head.

Mostly cuts and bruises...had a ratchet-strap fail, with the engine rocked forward working on my rear header, crushed my arm pretty good...lots of bruising, and deep cuts...few stitches.

Worst though, I was under the Grand Prix, working on the exhaust, dont remember what exactly though...
Started to slide out from under the car, got my head/shoulders out the passenger side, and my jackstand broke. One of the feet literally gave out, and broke, causing the car to come down on my chest.
Had 3 broken ribs, and a bruised sternum, along with some nice cuts from the **** under the car......Laid on a bed and couch for about a month...Still have some pain whenever I work too hard/much.

I have had a broken leg and arm in the past. Broken bones don't bother me that much when compared to bloody stuff.

My little brother had a dog bite accident a couple weeks back. Pretty gross if you ask me. :(

Worst injury was torn ACL in high school. Was in center field during baseball game. Got a fly ball to center with runner on third. Caught the ball on dead sprint, did big crow hop, planted left knee in the ground. Hyper extended left knee pop, torn ACL.

Worst non injury was 2 pulmonary embolisms, 1 in each lung (blood clots). Thought for sure I was going to die both times, couldn't breath a lick.

worst car maintenance related injury

Worst car related injury had to be when I actually found out I broke my thumb removing a seized caliper bolt...I had all my weight (which isn't much) pushing down on the bolt towards the ground with my thumb wrapped around the wrench...bolt broke loose...ratchet swung around...and I smashed my thumb hard enough against the rotor to bust my nail totally in half and it fell off about 10 minutes later. Went back to the Dr. a couple days later since it was still throbbing...so ya.

Non-car related?

Shattered left patella and cracked my right on in 3 places. Buddy thought it would be funny to trip me and I missed about 9-12 steps and happened to catch the concrete landing at the bottom knees first...I don't remember it...I blacked out. I do however remember the week in a wheelchair, 3 months on crutches, and another few months following with a full brace on my left leg. I still have problems to this day even after the therapy I did...they creak and pop quite often...I can't wait till I'm 40...I'm gonna be a cripple.

i really hope you kicked your friend's ass. that's not funny or cool at all.

i've never really had any accidents working on a car.

however, non-car i wrecked my dirt bike and busted my chin open...on conrete. yeaaa hurt like a beesh.

and next to that is kidney stones. yup. i fully understand women giving birth now. and i still will every time one decides to move :(

Actually...I never talked to him after that (we were about 13 or so...)...but now he has 3 kids...been through at least 2 marriages that I know of...and he actually did some time for passing fake $5 bills when we were seniors in high school.

So...karma's a b1tch is the lesson of the day.
