Aftermarket Stereo Problems?

Hey

I just bought a 2005 Grand Prix and the cd player in the stock stereo won't accept cds because the lock-in pin is permanently in the down position.

So, I figure I go buy a new deck at Visions electronics and they say I have to buy a $230 piece so it doesn't mess up OnStar and the door chimes etc.

Anyone have some suggetions? I just want to get a deck in and have everything work! Also, I am not very good with installing car stereos myself.

Any info would be great.

Thanks

go to best buy we sell the adapter so everything works like it should for about 110 . it retains the dome light supervision , door chime and most importantly parts of the instument cluster . i cant say enough especially gm vehicles after 98 DO NOT cut the harness , most gm went to no switched voltage behind the radio after 98 and then the dreaded onstar , then rds , then amps , so that one harness does alot

My friend wants me to install an aftermarket radio into his 2005 GP and best buy told me you need to keep the stock radio in the car (they say they relocate it to the trunk) to keep the door chimes and stuff. Is that true or will this harness from best buy do all that without having to move the stock radio into the trunk? And I believe he has the monsoon.

I work at bestbuy as well, its going to depend, theres actually a few ways to install a stereo if you have the monsoon or the bose, since i have a 2000 gp mines the bose, but its a similar situation. Yea you can relocate the stereo to the trunk to keep the chimes but thats kindof a waist of space unless you constantly forget your key in your car, forget to shut your door, or leave your lights on (grand prix's have constant running lights so that shouldnt be a problem). Ohh and the most annoying the seatbelt off chime.

If you want to run without the chimes a harness adapter will do ya no prob just make sure to check your connections, if you have a factory amp and i cant remember if the monsoon does, the bose does. You will have to splice the control wire into the remote wire on your aftermarket deck. Works just fine and i didnt lose anything but the most annoying chimes that i hated anyway, surprisingly enough i kept the open door chime and the key in chime.

If you want the chimes the easiest way to make sure you keep them will be a gmos-04, ide sell you mine but the only one i have is the gmos 01 off my buddys old malibu and that wont work on yours. Either way the gmos04 is about 100 bucks at bestbuy. Itll retain his chimes and if he wants even his onstar if he has it.

i called best buy to order the harness dash kit and antenna adapter and i was asking him about the display information center thing above the radio and he said that thing will not be on once i start up the car after the install he also said its not a miswiring problem but it is supposed to happen when they do the installs there. is this true that it will go or is there a loophole if so?

Its probably similar to the heads up display in mine. You lose anything that has to do with the radio in the display system. On mine all I lost was the radio station and the track number i kept everything else, so it wasn't a big deal. If you lose the information center completely though you'll need to see if the gmos 4 fixes that issue or not.

You should need both because the gmos 4 is used on multiple cars where as the grand prix's harness is much more specific. Funny thing is i work at bestbuy but i've never needed parts for the new gp since mines the 97 thru 03 model and the 04 i have i bought to sell so im not waisting time on its stereo lol. Head up to the install bay assuming your local bestbuy has one, they have multiple list's of each of the parts you would need and they're happy to sell the parts from the bay that you won't see in the regular store.
