I am interested in changing to HID headlights and foglights.
do the daytime running lights use half voltage (if so) I was told I would have to have a resistor include in the kit. I tried to visually check the difference in brightness but it appears to the same. I do not have acess to a voltmeter , so I thought I would ask the experts here.

the daytime running lights are full power, just like having them on. you need to disable them in order to not burn out your bulbs from over use.
 
just like bio said they are full power but the decrease the longevity of the lights because they are always on. And for the resistor part of it you need a relay for the HID kits. This way the power is being drawn directly from the battery and not through the factory wires.

So If I understand this correctly. I will order an HID conversion kit with a resistor/relay switch and then I can have DRL, lowBeam and High Beam. Am I correct? I live in Canada so DRL are law.

I live in Canada too... I disabeled my DRL and just run my fogs in the daytime...if even that.

What year is your car....you might want to disable auto lights too. I did that so when I install my HIDS, I wont have to worry about them randomly coming on (eg: driving in a parking garage...or pulling into my garage)
 


The relay isn't a switch it's a relay wiring harness. So that means it just draws the power directly from the battery. And in the US it is also a law that all new vehicles must have their low beams as the DRL. And since your car is a 2002 you probably have one headlight for both your high beams and low beams. With this being said you will only need one wiring harness.

No, no he means the lens on the projectors. Those morimotos come with clear lenses already. That's what I'm putting in my GP now, well technically it's the Mini H1 kit, but it's pretty close to the same projector.

So I buy that kit and order clear lenses .When installed does all this fit inside my stock headlight lens cover?
Do you have any issue with your daylight running lights? Does it interfere with your hi / low beam?

You don't have to spend $50 on the clear lenses however if you do you'll get more color flicker at the cutoff.

They will fit in the stock housings, I emailed retrofitsource.com and they said they will mount with no cutting of the housing. However I'd mount them with nuts, bolts, and lock washers.

Pull the pgm mall fuse and follow the steps to disable the headlights flashing when you lock the car from your key fob. The DRL can be disabled by pulling the fuse!
 
Wrong, you do have to cut some of the housing. The back if the headlight is too long so you have to cut off tue part of the headlight that the stock bulb fits onto, and you have to cut the shroud to fit. Also, the mini h1 ALREADY HAS CLEAR LENSES! You don't need to order them!


I'm working on making a how to on these now. Hopefully I'll have it done in a week or two.

Also the mini also does have clear lenses but they're not the quality of what retrofitsource.com sells, just so you know. I've sold hundreds of projectors, bulbs, ballast, lenses and shrouds. You don't have to trim shrouds guy to mount these what are you talking about ?
 
Is it really worth getting the clear lenses? Are those the mini's installed in the black prix?

They're morimoto mini H1 projectors,

I just bought the morimoto setup from retrofitsource.com with 9007 bixenon plug and play relay harness. I'll do a write up when I get around to retro fitting them into my black housed lights. The relay harness is quite nice, it comes with the pigtails to wire the bi xenon solenoid for your hi beam function.

Matt at Retrofitsource.com recommended the H1's with Morimoto H1 bulbs for our type of headlight.

I would think either would work but the locking ring on the H1's secures them better to the back of the headlight if you're not putting nuts and bolts thru the housing. Maybe that's why he recommends them. You'd have to buy amp to D2S connectors for bulb to amp style ballast plug in.
