bad feeling in the brake pedal when i turn and braked at the same time to avoid a car

i had to swerve to miss this guy yesturday. he just locked his brakes up. for no reason. i had to go into another lane and brake at the same time. well, i braked first , then turned the wheel to get over and i felt a a bad feeling in the brake pedal. like the it jolted when i turned the wheel. there is something very wrong. it was almost like something in the stearing slammed in to the pedal. any ideas?
 


It'll scare the **** out of you the first few times, but if you've got a dirt/gravel road around, drive on it, and slam on the brakes, and see if its the same feeling. If not then theres a bad problem, but its 99% the ABS.

Like they said, its your ABS keeping your tires from locking up, and you sliding all over the place.

Not trying to be a dick, but taking a guess: Maybe he slammed on his brakes to give you a brake check. If you had to go in the other lane to avoid hitting him, it sounds like you were tailgating pretty bad. Some people get pretty mad about getting tailgated and give them a brake check to let them know they need to back off.

Or they slow down to 50% of the speed limit. Then won't let you pass.

Only one I get annoyed with is during the winter people stop right on my bumper... Then the games begin. :th_thumbsup-wink:

To the OP, prolly ABS, its not that fast so it will feel like different wheels lock up independent of one another.
 
or, I was 5 car lenghts behind and the fact that a was NOT tailgating is what the difference was between me hitting and NOT hitting him. no one slams on there brakes and goes from 55+ mph to 0 mph as fast as they can because your riding there ass.
 
i've shut down a lane or two of highway traffic, due to someone being a total dick on the road, ran people off the highway on to the shoulder, used parked cars as a picks, f with me when i'm having a bad day and you'll know it!

and driving in NYC i could compete with the taxi drivers, and win. if you don't drive like you own the road in the city you will be eaten up.
 
Its your ABS. I hate W Body ABS Systems. My monte carlo and my GP do the exact same thing. I swear they do more harm than good. I loved the ABS on my truck but these cars I slam my brakes hard just to get the abs to give up and lock the dang wheels up.

So you hate ABS that tries?

And want ABS that doesn't?

That seems counter-productive.

Ideally you'd want ABS that doesnt suck.
 


I can be driving slowly down a snow covered road and come to an intersection and brake easily to the point where I don't think my ABS should come on but yet it goes and starts the pumping BS to the point where I almost slide into an intersection or hit a car. I feel much safer and better driving a car with no abs or like my truck you actually had to slam the brakes for the abs to kick on and when it did engage it was small pumps not like my GP where it feels like the car is releasing the brakes completly making me nervous. I never have an issue when its dry out or even when its rainy they seem to do fine. Its in the snow that they really piss me off sometimes. Thats just the way I feel about it.
 
Seems you're a tad over confident in snow.

ABS in snow = longer stop times though.

Zero control without it though.

Because in order to get shorter distances without ABS you NEED to lock up the wheels.
 
My last car, no ABS, and I loved it. GP, go over a small bump when braking, damn thing kicks in. I think I prefer no ABS.
 
ABS rocks my socks, wait til you're on I-95 and its pouring rain, and the guy infront of you decides to stop for no reason. Way ****ing better to have that "nervous feeling" in the pedal then to plow into someone.

Also, how hard are you hitting the brakes in the snow? I've got tires on my car that arent meant for snow, and I never had the ABS go off while driving around in 6+ inches, of which 2-3 were solid ice.
 
The point of ABS is so you can steer around something, like a car, when you slam on your brakes - not to stop faster. I never thought it was overly touchy on my Monte or my old GP.. it probably activates faster than your truck because the brakes lock up easier or something.
