97 gtp stuttering

Hey everyone I just test drove a 140k 97 gtp and I noticed under heavy acceleration it would stutter but not under light acceleration. I asked the guy about it and the dealer said that he probably ran some bad gas through it. He said he replaced the fuel pump and filter and ran fuel cleaner through it. What else could it be? There arnt any service lights on iether. Other then that I don't have any complaints. I'm getting a pretty good deal on it so if its something major then I don't wanna deal with it.

It needs a tune up, plugs wires, air filter. Then you should be good to go. About $80 in parts if you can do it yourself.

I've been doing some reading about others that have had similar problems and it seems to be either plugs wires or coils

Ok well aparently the guy I got the car from today said he replaced the plugs about a year ago with those 6 dollar autolites and msd wires. What do you think

That's interesting. Also does anyone know anything about a so called nitro box. There isn't much info out there but from what I can gather it taps into the iac and tricks the computer and supposedly makes more power but it could cause the car to run rich. What is the iac any ways, is it the idle air or intake temp or what? Also if the car was misfiring wouldn't it be throwing codes of some sort. Sry I'm a bit of a newb to gp's, I know my ls1

nitro box??

the only way to do anything to the computer is to TUNE it with a tuner, or buy a already tuned PCM, or have someone with said tuner, tune said car.

but other mods such as headers and intake and pulley drop will need tunes, a pretty much stockish gtp dose not need a tune because it wont really do anything.

Nitro box sounds like an overpriced spoof box that hooks into the IAT sensor and is nothing more than a box with a resistor in it. The resistor fools the pcm into thinking the intake air temp is cooler than it actually is and this causes it to dump fuel and feel more powerful for about 20 minutes. Once the pcm see's enough readings that show it otherwise, it'll combat the temp falsification with other stuff.

Click the link my signature. Seems to me like if you know your way around the LS1/F-Body then taking about 10 minutes of your day to read what I typed up will really help ya out. What I WOULD honestly do, is just go get a set of lifetime warranty plug wires, pick up some new autolite 606 spark plugs, gap them at .060"...or .050"...whichever you want. Also, I've seen MAF's screw with these cars and not throw a code. Try unplugging that to see if that changes anything. Just a thought.

hey there bluegtp91, that was a good read thanx. well i took off that nitro box and will see how it runs tonight when i go to work and post back. i pulled a spark plug not all of em but the one i did pull was an autolite xp 606 and gapped at .060, still need to check the others though

well i took that friggin nitro box off that changes the signal from the iat sensor which makes the computer add more fuel cuz the signal the computer is recieving is telling it that the intake charge is colder then it actaully is. well anyways i took it off and the car is running alot better. it isnt bucking nearly as bad at higher boost, its still there just not nearly as bad. im thinking that im gunna re-gap the plugs to .050 and see if that helps the bucking problem. and like i said it gets more noticeable when more and more boost is applied. if it doesnt help then ill go from there.

Nah not gunna do much to this car its gunna be my grocery getter just one that makes me smile. I might do a couple things like help it breathe better and maybe stop better and maybe handle better lol. Ok so maybe not a whole lot that will require tuning like a pulley drop or anything drastic

well from persistence from someone i wont name on another forum i re-gapped the plugs to .06 from .052 because the said someone says service manual this, and this company that and guess what....under any sort of boost, what i mean by that is the digital boost guage on the dash, when even a bar is on the guage it starts to chug. when no boost is present it gets good power, say little throttle. imo it ran better with a shorter gap, and before anybody says it, yes the plug wires are routed right and yes the plug wires are snug on the plugs themselves.
any takers?

taman86- Man whats the chances I have the exact issue with my 97gtp,,, same studder or flutter when accelerating,,, Id like help too. When parked it doesnt do this only under hard accelerating.
I dont have a ram air ta but a 96 ta wierd. If you find out your problem with your gtp please let me know thanks

hey there, im leaning towards the plugs myself, im gunna try and replace those and see if that helps at all, then ill try the coils
