suspension upgrade

I have a 98 gtp coupe and am looking into new struts and springs. I want something that will give me better handlling without being way expensive. I do some light autocrossing now and then but nothing serious. Its my daily driver so i dont need anything to agressive. I would also like to drop the car some. I know their are lowing springs on zzperfomance as well as kyb agx adjustable struts. Has anyone had any luck with these? Its about time to replace the struts any ways so i might as well put something decent on. If anyone knows of better setups or any other advice it will be appreciated. I dont wanna be to far above 500 as far as price with 750 being and the high side and 1,000 no way.

Kyb agx struts and ssc springs.
Springs will drop the car about an inch, not too much, but enough..
Great performance, I personally like to keep the struts on their firmest setting.

Edit: also change the mounts while you're at it.

excellent wasnt sure how the quality was on either of those two brands....did u see significant handling performance...like i said i autocross a bit and the car has so much body roll i swear the fenders touch the ground (i know thats a bit of an exaggeration)....actually i have a video of me autocrossing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovPcarrYQDY...irrelevant to the converstaion but just thought i would throw it up their.

here, let me help you out:

this thread has a lot of information about lowering. you also might want to look into some sway bars and trailing arms. those will really stiffen everything up. if youre looking for a slight drop with a higher spring rate, SSC are what you want from ZZP. however, if you want to go lower check out the thread i posted to figure out which springs will suit your style. just remember, the lower you go the more rough it will ride.

also, moving this to the correct section (suspension).

fixed your video link in my quote.. But anyway, I definitely noticed a handling improvement, less body roll.. Only other current suspension mod I have done is a front strut tower bar.. Hopefully more to come.. Namely trailing arms and sway bars.

thanks bio for the info and the move....yea i figured someone would mention sway bars but at this point its money i dont need to spend just yet. thanks for thread i am gunna look through that real well

for the money, would you recommend getting the intense coil-overs or doing the perfomance struts from zzp and the ssc lowering springs....i am leaning towards the coilovers. the reason i am doing this is i got new tires. i cannot have them aligned yet because my stock struts do not have the slot they need to do the allignment and their is a charge for making these slots....the car only has 68,xxx miles on it but its twelve years old so i figure i will just put the money they would charge to make the slots towards a better all around suspension setup

coilovers are going to have a lot of adjustability whereas a strut/spring package wont have as much. if you dont need this adjustability (namely in height adjustment), then dont jump to coilovers. they are very expensive and they will take lots of time playing with them to get them right. therefore, id suggest a strut/spring setup unless youre planning on straight up dumping your car and scraping frame.

yea sounds like coilovers are a bit more than i want to get into then. how is the quality of the struts and lowering springs zzp sells?

quality is there, but they dont really lower that much. my opinion: they arent low at all and i would rather get a set of springs that drops more. they also ride fairly harsh because they have a high spring rate, but that also helps a lot with handling. so really it's up to you.

They sell kyb agx struts.. Basically the only struts worth using.. And in my opinion a requirement if you're going to lower your car. Also they sell ssc springs, which are excellent.. Not too much of a drop, about an inch... But I wasn't after putting my car on the ground. I wanted a high performance/great handling ride, while keeping a decent bit of comfort.
